I work around the waterfront and my co-workers and I ordered Beach Bums frequently for lunch. The original owners were so friendly, knew me by name and phone number when I called to place a togo order. I recently placed an online order for my co-worker and myself at 2:01. The receipt said my order would be ready in 30 minutes. I walked to pick up our order at 2:35/2:40 to find the “Close” sign on the door, lights off, and door locked. The few days following that I walked back to the restaurant to ask about a refund, and again found the restaurant closed and door locked. When I finally found them open, I explained the situation and asked for a refund. The owner and his daughter immediately became defensive and claimed they were open, my food was made, and since I wasted their food and time they weren’t going to give me a refund. I repeatedly said their door was locked, and I had no way to get my food. They also changed their story and said they close for dinner turn around at 2:30… then went back to saying they were open when I came to get my food, so which is it? The dinner turn around hours are not posted on the door, website, or social media. I was shocked that they continued to raise their voices and argue with me when there were 3 or 4 other groups eating and watching the confortation. Beach Bums used to be one of my favorite restaurants and I miss the original owners. The current owners lack professionalism and customer service. When visitors ask us what restaurants we recommend we will not be...
Read morei wasn’t a customer but an employee of the restaurant next to them. it is big rock and i went to park in their parking lot where their “pay for parking” sign was located- keep in mind the parking lot has MULTIPLE empty parking spots. as i was calling the number i heard a man call for me and i turned around and he gave me a quick up and down look and asked if i was an employee of a restaurant around the waterfront. i said i was an employee and then continued to tell me i couldn’t park in his parking lot because HIS employees had to park in the parking lot across the lot, which at this time every parking spot in the waterfront was taken so that’s why i resorted to the only paid parking lot in the premises, and that i needed to go across the street and park or he would charge me $20. i am not sure what the normal amount he was charging for others but i was trying to pay so i could go to work. this is not the first time the owner of beach bums has given me and my coworkers trouble for just trying to work. i promise i would not be parking there unless i absolutely have to. i ended up having to park VERY far away and had to walk in the heat to my place of work just because he didn’t want an employee parking in his parking lot. i would’ve have been more understanding if he wouldn’t have been short and...
Read moreI am rather snobby when it comes to pizza. Having lived in Chicago and tasted great pizza, I am very skeptical when others brag about their pizza, especially in North Carolina. Many people feel that the toppings are the star of the show, but in my opinion, the crust will make or break a pizza at first bite. Spent the day at Atlantic Beach and on the way home, I saw Beach Bumz. Figured it was the standard Eastern NC fare when it came to pizza, meaning the pizza that will fill the void, but leave you a little disappointed, but we were hungry and pizza sounded good. So, we pulled in, place was not to busy and was able to be seated quickly. Took a look at the menu and decided to roll the dice on a medium “Over the Top.” Our waitress was nice, and checked on us enough without being in the way. The pizza came out in a reasonable timeframe and it was loaded with toppings, definitely not lacking in that area. I’m telling you, this pizza crust was tip top. How they make crispy, chewy and bubbly, I will never know, but I know I will be coming back. Beach Bumz claim that the pizza dough is made fresh daily, and the ingredients are all natural; I hope that’s the case, because...
