Frankie's Italian Grill has become a local favorite of the Texas Golden Triangle for many years. It is one of those places that everyone see's but it seems only a few know about although the hype has been gathering about for some time now. Externally, the eatery seems fair and quaint. Interior is dark and dated, but nothing your going to feel bad about if you did come in jeans or shorts. The menu is packed with some of the best Italian American favorites along with the usual appetizers and salads. I am not posting all the pictures, however, our selections were typical Italian fare. Cheese Ravioli, Chicken Piccata, and Chicken Al Forno. We also went with Stuffed Mushrooms with a mixed Marinara Alfredo sauce. The Stuffed Mushrooms had cheese, breadcrumbs, clams and crab. We had house salads with Ranch and a Caesar Salad. The meal was also served with these house baked butter garlic bread roles. Drinks were Water, Tea and Soda. Our Server Raelynn was excellent. Great service with a great welcoming attitude. The house baked garlic butter roles were very good. The stuffed mushrooms were very good. No crabby after taste and paired well with the mixed sauce of marinara and alfredo. The salads were generous, however the dressings were nothing spectacular. Do not expect buttermilk ranch, this one is that tart bottle type that makes your eye twitch. The Caesar Dressing was lacking any spectacular flavor as well. I was hoping for that garlicky, salty anchovy and citrus bite that you get out of a quality Caesar Dressing. Instead it was flat and nonmemorable. They looked great though and were very fresh. It is salad, so should you really care? I do really like it when your food is spaced perfectly though. Frankie's nailed it on timing, in which case each course was provided following the other. That is also very good service. Timing is everything. The main courses all looked spectacular! This is where it should have been a grand slam right? Sight, Smell and Flavor. The Ravioli were beautifully shaped and stuffed. Topped and cheesed. The Chicken Piccata were beautiful hand battered, fried, sauced and capered. The Al Forno was perfectly sauced, dished, cheesed and baked. However, then you tuck in and the this is what determines the mark of mastery. The Ravioli were cooked perfect. The dough and cheese were delicious on their own, however the sauce was a bit acidic and slightly bitter. The Al Forno pasta, bacon and chicken in the alfredo and cheese were very good, however, baked a bit too long and the sauce broke. The Chicken Piccata, which in my opinion defines the essence of beautiful, light and delicate Italian cuisine was also cooked very well with its beautiful angel hair pasta and capers, however, the sauce which is usually a light white wine, butter lemon sauce was weighted by the chicken broth thicker sauce without much lemon and no wine. The wine and lemon keeps this dish light and delicate instead of heavy and bland. Although there were some food issues I would not send back to the kitchen or really complain about, I still give Frankie's a solid 4 stars for their robust menu, great if not excellent service, large portions, and earthy menu. It is by no means a bloated chain like OG or one of the others that try to make you feel like your in some fake Italian eatery. Its Frankie's! It is as...

Read moreI had the absolute worst experience of my life here. The Pasta sauce tasted like hunt tomato sauce...and I would have thought it was apart from the tomato seeds floating about. It was so bland my 4 year nor my 1 year old would eat it. My poor wife! She ordered a knock off tour of Italy...the Chicken Parm looked like a banquet tv dinner chicken patty covered in the horrid excuse they call Marinara and speckled with mozzarella. The lasagna was a corner piece from a Stouffers or some other facsimile. Oh lest we forget the Alfredo...It had the texture of over thickened gravy and the flavor of flour and cream. That unto itself is a tragedy. My dish wasn't any better. The Manicotti was soup and covered with just enough mozzarella to give every few bites the joy of feeling as if I had a new horrific flavor of bubble gum. I had kept my cool and prepared to drop this fiasco in the failed category. Then...outcame the cannoli. What should have been a delicate puff pastry filled with flavorful creamy ecstasy was in fact a dish of disappointment. The pastry reminded me of a stale fortune cookie and the filling had a strong resemblance of Duncan Hines vanilla frosting. I was offended culturally. It truly was a disgrace to cannoli the world over. And to boot, I paid $80 for them to serve me such garbage. So I asked to speak to the manager. To which I was quickly informed the manager wasn't there. Oh a small caveat, The manager never called me when ever they did decide to come to work. Needless to say in there was a star ratings below 1 there would never be enough to begin to describe the abhorrent disdain that I have...
