I have frequented the DQ at 501 W Mission Ave, Bellevue, NE 68005 on several occasions. Overall I have had positive experiences. However, last night around 8:30pm I took my two daughters with me to get ice cream. As the employee handed the order to me I noticed she was holding my daughter's ice cream cone without gloves and was not wearing a mask. She was literally holding the cone itself without gloves. When I looked in I noticed none of the employees were wearing gloves or masks. This was extremely troubling to me as the area is still experiencing a high positive test reading, Omaha has issued a mask mandate as well as the Bellevue schools and other local establishments. This DQ location currently has the diningroom closed due to COVID, yet their apparent concern for safety is inconsistent with their employees' handling of the food without gloves or masks. Most, if not all restaurants in the area have been requiring gloves and masks for months. Based upon my experience last night I cannot conclude that this DQ establishment is taking the proper precautions for the health and safety of its customers. Until I am convinced this DQ is exercising appropriate safety precautions in handling their customer's food, I cannot do business at this location.
Thank you for your prompt response. However I find your response less than encouraging, thus I am changing my rating from 2 star to 1 star. I was hoping for a "whoopsie, that won't happen again" but instead the response indicates the actions of the establishment are deliberate. That's disappointing.
I do appreciate informing me of the exception to the mandate. I noted the recent mandate really just as an explanation that the surrounding area took this quite seriously; I didn't know if it applied here in Bellevue, just noting pretty much everywhere requires masks. But as you bring it up I'm led to believe it probably does apply and if that's the case, I don't believe that 6 foot rule was being followed last night. I'm petty sure your employee was easily within 6 feet of me. I pulled up, what, maybe 1 or 2 feet from the window and the employee practically stuck her head out the window to hand me the food. I might like to see the surveillance footage, because I think she was definitely within 6 feet. Furthermore I can say with certainty that the employees were within 6 feet of each other. At one point one employee was handing me a bag and then another came and handed a blizzard. They were practically touching -easily within 6 feet of each other, if not both within 6 feet of me. Unless you are saying all the employees all live in the same household, I don't think this establishment is following the mandate (or specifically the exception to the mandate of you're saying it applies).
Regardless, I think we could agree (or at least I hope we could agree) the focus should be on the health and safety of the customers. Not trying to figure out what safety precautions can be avoided and trying to fall within any exception to a rule. Even if the employee is staying 6 feet away from me and not breathing on me directly (which I am not convinced is actually happening), I am still not thrilled about them breathing all over my ice cream cone, handling it with bare hands, then passing it on to me.
I am hopeful your establishment will reconsider during your meeting on Tuesday. I look forward to your update. Depending on the update I may even be inclined to upgrade my rating from 1 star (for listening and respinding to the concerns of your customer), and frequenting your establishment again in the future....

Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is based on service and employees only. It is 8:55 pm on Saturday and the posted hours are open until 9pm. We slipped in shortly after 8:30, and the lobby area was already chaired off from the seating area. There were 2 very small tables available for seating. They had to go in the back to get our change, as it had been removed from the drawer - by 8:30. We noticed someone walk to the door before 8:45 and it's already locked. If your posted hours are until 9, your door should be unlocked until then. The employees saw him but did not make any move to let him in. He left.
If DQ is happy turning clients away, that is their choice but then change your posted hours. If that's not acceptable, then they need older, more responsible employees that are willing to serve people until closing time. No one looked to be older than 20.
The ice cream...
