Considering I'm from Texas where there's good BBQ on every corner. I realize that I have a weakness signs that reads "Smoked Brisket, sausage, Ribs, BBQ, etc". I am quickly realizing that BBQ does not always mean Texas BBQ.
Today I visited Swine Dining BBQ in Bellvue. Everyones been telling me its the best BBQ in Omaha; so I decided to give it a try.
Before going to this place I was sure to check the reviews and for the most part the reviews were 4's & 5's.
I ordered a nice sample of the menu and I was very excited to get home to enjoy my food. I ordered the 3 meat dinner (sausage, brisket ribs). I also ordered the smoked wings with Mac & cheese and potato salad on the side.
Smoked Wings - nicely smoked cooked thoroughly. I thought they were a little salty. (perhaps its the brine)
Ribs - pretty good, I thought they were cooked thoroughly, tender, decent smoke flavor, they didn't seem freshly cooked.
Brisket - It was also a little salty and it was sliced thin..... it reminded me of a commercial brand brisket that you can buy in the grocery store (heat & serve).
Potato salad - definitely store bought and the potatoes were a little hard.
Mac & Cheese - very thick, creamy, cheesy with great flavor.
Sausage - did not taste smoked, that texture was weird and I did not like it.
Portions were decent and fair for the meal but nothing to get excited about.
BBQ Sauce - I got the sweet and the sweet & spicy flavor. I did not like either of them because they were too sweet for me.
On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the best)
Cleanliness - 5.0 Customer service - 6.0 Ambiance - 6 .5 Food presentation - 5.5 Food quality - 6 Food taste - 5.5 Food portion size - 5 Total satisfaction 5.5
Of all the items I ordered I liked the smoked wings and Mac & Cheese the most. Everything else was Ok. Perhaps I was expecting something amazing and did not...
Read moreEdited previous review to update with experience with the owner. I messaged him as he requested and he went above and beyond to rectify the situation. He has refunded the transaction and offered a meal to make up for the negative experience. He apologized and explained that the way things were handled on Saturday is not how they do things and he will make sure it doesn't happen again. I appreciate this and did not expect all that. We will def give Swine Dining another chance thanks to how the owner handled it.
Previous review: The brisket here was decent but even the hot bbq was more sweet than hot. The beans were ok. But what I didn’t like was the customer service. Our friends got their order 10 mins before ours and let my kids try the mac and cheese because they didn’t like it, and they hated it. They actually said they wouldn’t eat it if it was their last meal and nothing else was available. My husband and I also was not a fan. Our order hadn’t been made yet so I nicely asked the employee if there was any way we could switch the 2 kids meals sides from mac and cheese to fries. Simple easy switch on an order that hadn’t been made or handed out to us. The girl said she didn’t know if they would do that and proceeded several minutes later to come out with mac and cheese in a dish for both of the kids and said her manager wouldn’t allow them to have a different side. So I had to order them fries on top of the $50+ order we placed. It’s not like they had handed us the food and then we asked for something else. For that reason alone I won’t go back. Mac and cheese is usually a safe bet for my kids that don’t like bbq food and I’ve never got mac from a place they didn’t like til now. I think they handled...
Read moreAs I have frequented this establishment over the past year I’ve noticed there were times the meats I received had an off plastic taste to them. My spouse noticed a few visits ago the staff emptying small plastic bags of meat onto a tray.
Yesterday we shared a three meat plate with brisket, ribs and all in the pool. When I ordered I asked the cashier if they had any meat that is not reheated and served from plastic baggies. She informed me that all of their food is portioned out into plastic bags and reheated. That is how they take care of their portion control. I find it unacceptable that a restaurant microwaves their food in order to serve it warm and nonetheless does it from plastic bags. Microwaving food in plastic can cause chemical leaching which is probably the odd tastes I’ve been experiencing on and off the past year. If I wanted to eat reheated barbecue, I could just as easily reheat my own barbecue at home and do it safely in a glass container.
I have visited many barbecue establishments across the nation over the years and none I have ever been to have prepared and served food this way. I will be finding a new barbecue establishment from now on.
Overall, the staff is polite and welcoming. The only reason service is rated at three. Stars is due to the reheating process with plastic bags.
The only food I could recommend would be the Cajun fries as those have to be prepared fresh and...
