Fully fine food, not fancy.
Roma serves tasty, abundant food at a reasonable price. The service we received was indifferent, even before the tables around us filled up. The atmosphere leaves a lot to be desired, but appeared reasonably clean.
My daughter and I visited Roma for the first time, and while everything was fine, we won't likely return, simply because there are many incredible dining experiences available in Omaha, and Roma wasn't anything to write home about. The restaurant appeared to have been recently renovated (the flooring looked newish), but there is an unfinished, temporary feel to the place. Maybe decor will be added soon.
Our server Myranda didn't offer a wine list or ask us if we wanted anything to drink when she came to the table. She was pleasant and fine, but didn't know the food well enough to help in selecting between two dishes. Yummy, warm bread knots were served, but only butter was on offer, no traditional dipping oil. We ordered mozzarella sticks and caprese salad for our appetizers. The cheese sticks were tasty, very hot and melty as they should be. The caprese salad was a little disappointing, simply because the tomatoes used were kind of hard in the center (I cut around it), and it was a little skimpy on the basil, which is in season. Our entrees arrived when we were about halfway through the apps. We had ordered the chicken parmigiana and the salmon prima. Our two entrees came with spaghetti (but not salad), and were easily large enough to feed six of us. The restaurant had started to get busy, so Roma is clearly a popular place. Our entrees were ... well, fine. The spaghetti was a little overdone, the red sauce a little bland, but the chicken coating was crispy, the salmon moist and well-cooked, the mushrooms plump. It was, all in all, decent Italian food for a restaurant in the Midwest, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to someone looking for lots of food pleasant on many palates.
This 3-star review reflects the mediocre service, uninspired atmosphere, and food that was a little blander than what we were hoping for. But...
Read moreRoma's was highly recommended in some groups I'm in, and honestly I thought it was another restaurant for the longest time that I already reviewed which was why I hadn't gone. After trying this restaurant I'm excited to try more from them.
Portions are very generous. They have complimentary bread service.
We went during lunch, so we got the lunch special menu as well.
Pasta sampler special 5 stars At lunch it's 10.99. You save 2 dollars. At dinner I suggest you get the pasta combo which has a large serving of the sampler plus 2 more items. The price difference is 2 dollars from there (so a total of 4 at lunch, but 2 at dinner), so it's not much money, but you get a lot more. Lunch also comes with a salad which is why I went with the pasta sampler today. The flavors are perfect for me and this is a dish id return for. The price point is also very good.
Grilled chicken breast 4 stars It was a great version of the grilled chicken breast. Good sized portion. At lunch it was 13 dollars. The vegetables were over salted for my tastes.
Roma special 4.5 stars I think the sauce in this was excellent. My chef friend thought it tasted like pizza sauce though. I ordered this because I asked for their 5 star item. The dish itself was massive. For 17.99 it was a great deal with all the meat it came with. I'm just not really into that much meat, but it is very much perfect for the meat lover. I can see why they wanted me to try this dish.
Service started off a bit rocky in terms that we sat there for a good amount of time with no one coming up to us. As soon as someone finally approached our table, the service from then was excellent. I included my body in one of the photos with the dishes next to each other for size comparison.
Parking is available in a medium sized lot. The rows were a bit narrow and difficult for my friends jeep (he has a very large vehicle) , but smaller cars will have...
Read moreVery open spaced restaurant, I hope they do a bit of redecorating to kind of section it off and give it a cozy feeling. Honestly though this place as open as it is, it's not about the decor, it is about the wait staff, and the chefs, and manager and hostess. The hostess was very kind and attentive, our waiter was very professional and on top of it the whole time...thank you Jacob! I had the Chicken Cremora, and I was very apprehensive of being let down, but I was not, the dish was absolutely AMAZING! One of my sons had the traditional spaghetti and meatballs which he was VERY satisfied with. Our youngest son had the Shrimp Parmesan, and he was thrilled that the shrimp were fresh and not "shrimpy" tasting. My wife had a Italian sampler combo that was baked to perfection with their pink sauce. She also had a side salad that was generously portioned with their house dressing that was amazing. The salad was very fresh. It was really great experience and we will be back for sure. The family that works and owns this place came a LONG way to open this business...Albania. The manager came and spoke with us about how our evening was going and she was very kind and appreciative of our business. Some of the things I noticed, the restaurant is extremely clean. They even use disinfectant spray to clean the tables and chairs after people leave. First time I have seen that in this area. Used plates and utensils are promptly bussed. There was never a long wait on refills for our drinks, which is a pet peeve of mine. This place can easily give ANY Italian restaurant in the Omaha metro area a run for their money, and more than likely beat them. A very nice surprise in a not so well known location. I sincerely hope they stay around a long time...their food and their dedication are greatly needed in this city. Thank you staff of Roma's for a...
