I cannot believe the other reviews of this place, maybe I just got unlucky. When I went here last night, there was trouble from the beginning. We had to give our names numerous times before they finally wrote down that we were there and waiting for a table, and before waiting outside were stuck in a tiny entrance hall with about a dozen people. Once we were finally seated and ordered our food, nothing came out at an even reasonable time and also not at the same time. The person I was with got their dinner first, then I got my first order of rolls about five minutes later. We had to ask about three times when our appetizer would be ready, but it didn’t come out until ten minutes after the person I was with finished their dinner. And when it did, it came out at the same time as my second order of rolls. So now while I eat one, the other is getting cold. The roll I got looked terrible, it was basically a shallow boat that looked like a KFC breakfast bowl but with sushi. Later that night, I spent an hour throwing it all up. I will not be going back to this location ever. Why would I? There are a hundred other sushi places that have better service, better food and I don’t get sick when I go to them. Also, the portions are a joke. I got the eel roll and on plenty of the individual rolls I was having trouble even finding the eel. Basically they give you a bunch of rice with the tiniest amount of meat they can get away with. Do not waste your time or money...
Read moreI was struggling while writing this review, I'm in between 3 stars or 4 stars and can't decide which one to go with. My first image of this restaurant is very good, I like the decoration when I step in, it's very typical Japanese decoration and I feel they should have delicious food. However, I was kind of disappointed with the food itself. My major concern is two things: 1) the sashimi is warm, I never got such temperature of fish previously in a premium Sushi place (I count average cost per person $40+ as a premium place), the fish should be stored in a cold place and keep the temperature low. 2) Sushi rice is not meet my expectation, it's a little bit hard than it should be and not in a good balance of sweet/sour, a good Sushi rice should be in a good balance of soft&hard, and taste kind of sweet with a little bit sour. Well, there is still something good about the food, they offer more amount of fish than other Sushi places, the Sashimi and Sushi are much bigger than normal. So, after struggling for a long time, I decided to rate this place as 4 stars, since I believe the negative side could be improved in the future, and I like...
Read moreI have visited Sushi In Joy several times for lunch since I work right up the road. Each time has been a pleasant experience and I like the mom and pop feel to it. The parking lot is shared by several businesses and can completely fill up around noon, but I've been lucky. Service is quick and friendly. I don't "In Joy" sushi so I stick with the teriyaki and donburi which I feel are perfectly priced for what you receive. I was seated right away on each of my visits by the waitress who stopped by my table several times to check on me. The tables have always been clean and the food has always been cooked perfectly with just the right amount of sauce. The donburi meal (my favorite) starts with a very small basic mixed greens and carrot shreds salad (not exciting), and tasty miso soup. Around the time you are finishing these, your donburi arrives. Donburi consists of your choice of meat layered over stir fried cabbage, onion, bean sprouts, and broccoli, then rice. I really like the Oyako Donburi which also comes with a perfectly fried egg just waiting to drip warm, gooey yolk all over your meal when poked....
