We noticed this Liz's Tavern in the strip mall adjacent to the town common and have been wanting to try it for a while now. We arrived at 6:45 PM on a Saturday night and waited maybe five minutes to be seated, unsure of their method. No one came over to seat us, so we sat ourselves as we saw others doing. After another ten minutes I went up to the bar and waited there to order a pizza. Paid for it and we waited in a booth for it. Fifteen minutes after that the bar keep came over and told us the kitchen was running behind. No problem. Another forty five minutes past when we decided to question the whereabouts of said pizza and were told it would be an additional wait. At this point I waited fifteen more minutes for my refund. I think they were just hoping that we would leave. No one from 7:00 PM to 8:20 PM ever came over to ask if we even wanted drinks while we waited. Not a good business model as the wife and I were thirsty.
Our overall observations of the establishment were that this place seems to be a locals only hang out for cheap beer, whiskey and eats. There was definitely a vibe of some getting the VIP treatment. We saw two other couples experience a similar fate, except they didn't hang around as long as we did waiting for someone to come over. They left.
I can't say how the food was, as we never even got a sniff. Not even a menu. I can say that the place itself, the interior, reminds me of some of the dive bars you would see in the Malden and Chelsea areas.
When you conjure up an image of a "tavern", it is not Liz's that comes to mind. Make sure that your shots are up to date if you dare enter the restrooms. Again, very much like a dive bar. I can't envision a scenario where we would...
Read moreLiz DOES NOT support her local community! I was helping with a local fundraiser in early 2024. I stopped into Liz’s, the place was pretty empty & I asked to speak with a manager to see if Liz’s would consider donating a gift card to be raffled off at the fundraiser. I was told the manager was not there, so I left a flyer for the fundraiser with my name & phone number on the back. I never heard from anyone; I called multiple times and each time I was told Liz had just left, even though I called when they said she would be there. Therefore, I gave up.
Today, I was again working for a fundraiser for the Bellingham VFW Post 7272 BBQ cook-off (proceeds to go towards our dedicated Veterans) to seek out a gift card donations from various local businesses. I decided to give Liz’s another chance. I was met by a rude bartender who told me “now is not the time” (it was 3pm on a Saturday). Granted it was a little busy and I got the impression the bartender was the only one on duty. She then told me Liz would never talk to me about a donation, and said I could leave a flyer, but now was not a good time. I left & decided I would never approach Liz Tavern ever again for a donation, nor will I give her my business. Sadly I recently heard their food had improved, but I prefer to give my business & hard earned money to an establishment who gives back to the community that helped to build their business. Very unfortunate for Liz’s and I will be sharing my experience to my...
Read moreI visited Devlin's with my wife and had the fish and chips. The fish was awesome and took up almost the entire width of the plate and it was not a small plate. It came with fries and coleslaw. I asked if I could get half fries and half onion rings which they agreed to with no issues. The special order cost me an extra $1.25 which was no problem. My wife got the haddock wrap with a gluten-free wrap. There was music playing, but it was not overbearing. We were able to have a conversation with no trouble. The service was professional and friendly. I gave this establishment a four star, because there wasn't anything special about the tavern. If you found my review helpful please give me a thumbs up and check out some of my...
