After a night of bowling we stopped in for a light snack since they are open until 2:30 am. Everyone goes here after the clubs shut down. We went before the rush around 9:30/10 ish and only a few patrons were there. Obviously you will find a younger crowd here. Mostly college students in wool, mismatched socks, wrinkled clothes and messy bed head. A funny bunch. No patchouli tonight. I brought a reluctant a date that had never heard of them. We got the potatoes dumplings over the meat ones. I didn't catch the price but we shared just one small order since we were needing only a light snack on the way home before activities 😏. This size for two was just a sampler. They had a drizzle of spicy sauce, just a hint~ not enough to burn tomorrow. You can also adjust your order. These little dumplings are hard to describe other than little nuggets of potatoe although to me they are like what I would describe as a consistency as if it had pasta mixed in. A doughy texture. There was a small piece of rye bread and you can get sour cream on the side also, which is good for the spiciness. These are made as you order and cooked up behind an open area that you can watch, although it is no special show. This is a very casual place. They do not have hot tea. I don't know about coffee, cold drinks are typical canned drinks and juices. No alcohol. There is a fun vinyl collection and a record player to fill the air. I do recommend them at least for a fun change. You can't go wrong....
Read moreIt’s a dark, rainy Bellingham night and I can’t remember the last time I was here, but it’s past ten and I want something warm and cheap. I push open the door, my glasses are fogged up in my mask, and I walk in wiping the raindrops off— totally blind. A friendly voice greets me and waves me forward. I laugh and say that I can’t see. “That’s alright! It’s always the same here! No menu needed!” the friendly voice says and I laugh. “One potato please,” I say. “You got it! $8. Sour cream?” “Yea please!” “One, two, three?” “Just one please!” The food is hot, delicious, cheap, comforting, and tastes like boozy nights in college when the streets were packed and the pandemic couldn’t’ve been dreamt up yet. This place is perfect and truly authentic to itself— from the always sweet employees and beloved record player to the cheap canned soft drinks and simple food options, “beef or potato”. Pel’meni is good for the soul and I hope it never changes. Masks required, indoor seating, and fab...
Read moreBellingham's hidden gem right here! The only item on their menu is dumplings, and for good reason. These dumplings are so good that I regularly return anytime I'm passing through Bellingham to satisfy my craving. You get the option of all meat, all potato or half and half bite-sized pieces of heaven tossed in sauce and garnished with their house seasoning and cilantro. They even give you a piece of rye bread to soak up all the sauce. Served with your choice of sour cream, hot sauce and/or vinegar on the side. I'm a big sauce girl, so of course I get all 3. I can't recommend this place enough!
Pre-COVID, this used to be the go-to spot after a fun night out on the town, but they're still open until 11PM every day and are always fairly busy when I stop by. Tables are well spread out and you can take out or dine in. A fun fact you didn't ask for - one of my first dates with my...
