First, the good news: the service was very friendly and attentive, and the oysters we ordered were at least fresh.
But this place should be ashamed of charging the prices they do for the quality of the food and the ambiance (what ambiance?!?). I got the “piri piri” chicken and my wife got the tuna poke bowl, and neither one of us had more than a few bites. The chicken was literally the driest, most overcooked chicken I’ve ever had at a restaurant, the sauce was at best a hint of “piri piri” flavor, and it was on top of a bed of the saddest steamed (unseasoned) vegetables. 1992 called, and it wants its half-assed food back.
They also brought us complimentary “bread,” which was two smashed popovers with butter in (not kidding) the paper cups they give you for ketchup at McDonalds. I didn’t try the poke bowl but my wife said it was equally boring and bland.
I’ve had bad food before, I wouldn’t have bothered to write a review, except that the total for our dinner - 6 oysters, two entrees and two drinks - came to $130. 130!!! Absolute robbery, you can get better food for a third of the price almost anywhere else in Belmont.
Also the lighting, decor and overall atmosphere was less “romantic date night” and more “we used to be fancy and then stopped paying attention.” Won’t be going back here. (The 2nd star is for...
Read moreWe came with 9 friends for a birthday brunch. I had called twice to ensure that they would do something special (jazz band play happy birthday, cake with candle) and was assured it would happen. The hostess noted the birthday as we walked in.
Our waitress was clearly not having the best day; she did not get our orders right both when ordering and delivering -- once we finally got her attention to order more than 30 minutes after sitting with our drinks. We ended up being charged for an extra meal but were not able to explain to the waitress that we were 11 people and there were 12 meals on the bill; we had sent back an extra omelette that had arrived.
The food finally came, it was adequate but the waitress never checked in on us nor did she come for a second round of drinks, which we ended up ordering at the bar. We waited quite a while for a birthday moment and nothing happened, so we left.
I would recommend this for a decent brunch place if you need a last minute reservation. Do not trust a special event to them; we left disappointed and...
