First visit wasn't good. So first part of review is cautionary. See update section for other information.
11/10/20 Went here first time tonight. We had crab dip which had way too much salt in it and the pita chips with it were also salty. It was hard to appreciate the crab flavor. I had the grouper special with risotto. The grouper had a lot of salt on it, too much. My friend had the steamed seafood platter and thought most of the items had been frozen rather than fresh. The hush puppies were also very salty. My friend who has high blood pressure said that even her salad dressing was salty.
They really need to turn it down a few notches with the salt, especially since many people in the surrounding housing developments are seniors who may have issues with blood pressure. The saltiness interfered with everything we tried.
So, if you have high blood pressure, be very picky about what you order here and ask lots of questions about salt content. Also be prepared to take an extra diuretic later.
I posted this information on NextDoor and people got very nasty! How DARE I not like the meal, and how dare I speak up about it. Shoot me now for daring to have or express an opinion!! It wasn't as though I said "Don't eat here"! It's scary how many people go into full attack mode if someone disagrees about anything!
One man even said that people with heart conditions have no business dining out! Really!?? At least 50% of the nearby population in Leland is senior citizens, many with medical conditions that may restrict their diet. I guess anyone that fits that description is supposed to just stay home and never dine out, according to some! Nuts to that attitude! Many people love this restaurant. I may try it again but will be wary and ask for reduced salt if possible.
UPDATE: 10/19/21 Returned recently for energy company presentation. I had the steak option and the steak was great. One friend said it's the best steak he's had in the area. Other friends who had fish and chicken Alfredo option loved their dinner. So heed the caution above if you have salt issues,...
Read moreThe Cape Fear seafood company provides a relaxed and casual environment to enjoy some local seafood. The reservation system online is easy to use and navigate. I called later in the day to change my reservation to see if they had anything earlier and they were able to accommodate me. The restaurant is nicely decorated with some local art and is kept very clean and orderly. The food was good however, given the price point it could’ve been a little bit better regarding some of the items. My meal was the broiled seafood platter. The mussels would have been better served with a sauce or a cream over them to maintain their moisture. By the end of the meal, the mussels that I had not eaten had turned into the consistency of a pencil eraser as they dried out. The shrimp and scallops while cooked perfectly, were somewhat oversalted/seasoned. The white fish on the broiled platter was honestly the best fish I have ever had anywhere, perfectly cooked and seasoned. The risotto while flavorful, was slightly overcooked. The asparagus was well undercooked for my liking. However, my wife felt the asparagus with her meal was appropriately cooked. I tasted her asparagus and compared and they were cooked to different levels. My wife ordered the Blackened Salmon. She and I both agreed that the Salmon was appropriately seasoned and was cooked to order. She experienced the same issue that I did with the risotto being slightly overcooked. We ordered an appetizer of fried okra which was exceptionally good. The fried okra appears to be handmade on-site and is cooked to perfection. Overall, it was a nice meal and I recommend...
Read moreWe just left this restaurant and was a little surprised at the taste of the food!
Arrival - For starters upon arrival we were seated at a table so we asked for a booth. The young lady said the booths were all reserved. Note -when we were just leaving out the booths were still empty!
Taste of food- BLAND! No seasoning at all. The only thing that was good in the menu were the oysters. The scallops were cut up pieces of scallops that taste almost fake. Shrimp very fishy and no seasoning. Flounder- size is chicken strip and no taste at ALL! Cole Slaw - eating raw cabbage with a sprinkle of mayonnaise. Hush puppies- cooked too long so very crunchy.
Presentation and temperature were great. Location- New and Clean Waiter -Conor nice and attentive
Manager Emily - she was nice and told us that basically none of their food is seasoned but just have the same buttermilk batter. I ordered a combination of 3. However I did eat the oysters. I told Emily since I ate the oysters I don’t mind paying for that. Well when Emily brought the bill back out she charged me $14.99 for an oyster basket!!!!!! Totaled with my husband we paid $40 for bland food that neither one of us finished. Totally not worth it and will not go back. Expected a little more hospitality from the manager but guess not.
If you decide to go please don’t order fried food unless you are on a bland diet. No seasoning at all and don’t even waste your time on the free...
