Chocolates Plus — Restaurant in Bemidji

Recently moved back to the Bemidji area. And I had shopped here years before and absolutely loved it. THEN.

But, I went in earlier last week (after years away) and was kind of underwhelmed and was really put off by their no credit purchases/ cash or check only. Who carries cash or checks anymore?

I was in town looking to buy local gifts and really wanted to send some special Bemidji treats. Luckily I did have some cash on me ... That I had planned to use for gifts and the tooth fairy.

It was not the welcoming environment I remembered. In fact, they almost seemed annoyed by my presence?

I don't know, I'm happy to support local, and I wouldn't say I'll NEVER shop here. But, I'll probably check McKenzie Place first for some yummy treats before heading here.

Was super excited to get some chocolate during this time! As I was on my way out after my $16 dollar purchase I looked at a magnet I was interested in buying but put it back before politely saying thank you and walking out. On my way out one of the employees came out to my car and said “I’m gonna need that magnet back though” I asked what magnet? And told him I put it back before I walked out. He then said “can you show me where you put it ? It looked like you really liked it” assuming I stole it obviously. I went back in and showed him where I put it down. I brought my items back and didn’t ask for a refund. Being accused of stealing is so disrespectful. Not a good time definitely would...

When paying for products, my card wouldn’t read. The man helping was basically yelling that my card was in error to the other employees. Everyone in the store could hear which was extremely embarrassing. Then the guy runs my card again and it errors again. (I have issues with the strip and chip both not reading depending on the card reader.) The guy yells again that my card read error and began insinuating to me that I didn’t have money in my account. This experience was mortifying and frustrating. Another employee suggested he enter the card number manually and he basically said he didn’t want to because that was too slow. Needless to say I paid another way and...
