I've lived in Minnesota since 1969 and had never visited these two iconic statues. So, with a free weekend I decided to head north and check them out. I was not let down. The statues are very well preserved and maintained for their age. I don't think there could be a better setting for their display either. The visitors center is beautiful and the park is well planned. I'm pretty sure there could not be a more idyllic Minnesota setting for Paul Bunyan and Babe. I recommend a stop even if not a road trip to see them specifically like I did. There is lots to do around the town and at the park as well. The drive up from the Twin Cities is about four hours and beautiful the entire way with great places to see along the way. Another Icon, Itasca State Park and the Mississippi Head Waters are near by...

Great place to stop for a quick picture, picnic, or walk while enjoying the view of the lake!

KIDS: Sure it's cool to take a picture with Paul and Babe, then play on the playground, see some of the nick nacks in the shop, but after that... well let's just say it would have been nice for the recent remodel of the grounds to have added more... like a giant frying pan... foot prints... or something creatively Paul Bunyan like that.

BICYCLING: Good drop spot for biking. The Sanford Center lot is a bit more spacious though. If you do the loop around the lake, BEWARE of "Old 17" on the North Western part of the lake. We took our kids there, and the speeds on the road are quite high to have bikers right on...

I have lived by this site for 25 years. During that time I have taken countless photos in front of these two with various friends and family members. I will say this, Paul and Babe are remarkably consistent. They have never grown bigger or lost weight. The guards at Buckingham Palace do not hold a candle to these two. Consistency, poise, and profound rigidity are the words that come to mind. Even though it's a rather touristy thing to do, take a selfie with a loved one in front of them. Casual attire is fine. I always wear jeans to match Paul so that he doesn't feel underdressed. Babe has never spooked or flinched, so small children should be fine. Although, have you seen Night...

Iconic northern MN park to visit. There is an inclusive playground, tourist info...so cute inside with real bathrooms and lots of info about the community.. theater, trails, events etc. Rent paddle boats or kayaks from there too. Walk along the lake to BSU and keep walking to the next large and amazing Diamond Point Park. From this location it's easy to cross the street and grab a home made ice cream cone from Big River Scoops. A block away is the Paul Buysn Sub Shop..yum! Close to an amazing hot dog stand as well! Enjoy your time here!

We found this tourist attraction on our Google Maps app. We were looking for something to see while driving through Minnesota on Highway 2. This is just about 5 miles from the highway & simple to get to. There was parking for several cars & spaces for RV’s which we utilized with our motorhome & tow vehicle. Great playground for the kids and a beautiful visitor center and grounds leading back to Lake Bemidji which is where the Mississippi River begins. A fun stop to break up the driving monotony!
