Bonta Gelato - Tasting Counter — Restaurant in Bend

I love gelato, when it's done right! I seek out gelato shops where ever I travel and usually get the same flavor, dark chocolate. I have traveled in Italy multiple times and they know how to do it right. So that is my benchmark. Many gelato shops in Oregon fail to match up to Italy standards, IMHO. But this one is very close! We were in Bend for the weekend and saw the great reviews of this shop. Turns out there are two locations, but be forewarned, the shop downtown is very busy with lines of people on a hot day like we had. But this location is further out, in east Bend area. The road out front was torn up with construction so access wasn't easy. But it was worth driving around the block to get to it. They had several vegan flavors (which I didn't try) and some regular flavors, including a Salted Chocolate that looked fairly dark. That's the flavor I got, a single scoop in a cup. The consistency was smooth and rich. Flavor was a nice strong chocolate flavor and not salty, just enough to enhance the flavor profile. It was delicious and the qty for one scoop about right. Stopped in with my middle son to get some Gelato because he had never tried any. We got the roasted 🍓, which was fantastic, the salted vanilla, which was also great, the dulce de Leche, very sweet and creamy, and the peanut butter fudge which was grainy and the flavors were a bit muddled. The price is good for the quality we received and for 15 bucks we all got plenty of Gelato. Worth a stop if you like...
