We used to go to this restaurant a fair amount, but over the last couple years the service has really gone downhill. Yesterday was the last straw. My wife and I went in and seen that a waitress was just cleaning off a booth, she got about half done and left it so we figured rather than stand in the doorway we would go sit down and she could finish cleaning it when she got back. There were 4 or 5 other couples in the restaurant at the time and 3 waitresses. We sat there for 5 minutes and no one came to finish cleaning the table, give us menu's or offer to get our drinks. So we sat and sat, all the while I see waitresses behind the counter giggling and eating. After about 10 minutes a waitress delivered an order to a booth next to us, she looked right at me, and walked back toward the counter. I thought she was going to get a rag and finish cleaning the table so I didn't say anything. Well, she went back behind the counter and was talking with another lady. We waited another 5 minutes or so, and it was plain the wait staff were not interested in waiting on us (or anyone else in the restaurant) so my wife and I got up and left. It is a shame that this place as sunk to such poor service. The food is decent but it is not so outstanding that we were going to beg for someone to finish cleaning our table and wait on us. This was strike three for this place, we will never be back, and from what I seen in there the last couple times we were there I think a lot of people feel...
Read moreThe wait staff is nice enough. But I was not happy with my meal. I have eaten breakfast there before and didn't like what I had ordered. I was in the mood for a sausage sandwich so I asked if they could make me one. Well I guess I wasn't specific enough. I assumed they would take and English muffin and put a sausage patty and some cheese on it. What I got was an English muffin with sausage links that had been cut in half then fried. Super dried out and over cooked. I guess this is what I get for asking for something that was not on the menu. The price for these sausage muffins??? $4.99 each. I ordered two of them. :( I guess they had to charge me ala cart prices for the muffin, sausage and cheese for each one. $10 for two sandwiches. I ate as much as I could stomach of one (approx half) and left the rest. I paid without complaining and just hoped to forget about it. But it's really put me in a foul mood for some reason.
I don't like posting bad reviews. I'm sure this place has good food. Just order...
Read moreUpdate: (12/24/23) Nothing has changed from what you will read below. My wife and I just finished up a turkey dinner and it still is the best we know of anywhere! They don't use perfectly sliced "lunch" meat like alot of other places. These folks roast the turkeys right there and pull the meat right off the bones! Generous portions of stuffing, mashed potatoes and corn make up the rest of the dinner. If you like turkey, you need to stop by here on Fridays and Sundays. That's when they offer it. Do try it!
One of downriver's best "bangs for the buck". My wife and I were alerted to this place many years ago and we have been hooked on it ever since! NEVER have had a bad meal. ALWAYS get more than what you pay for. They have cut their hours somewhat for the same reason alot of restaurants have: shortage of staff. Don't let that stop you ... do try the Dixie Cafe; it's a wonderful little family...
