The food was okay and their prices and options were great. We got a to go order and luckily checked the bag before driving over two hours home because they’d forgotten my food on the counter. The person who took my order and I witnessed begin making my wrap legit accused me of trying to get more food for free when I explained kindly that it wasn’t in the bag. She didn’t seem to believe anything I said. I think she mostly questioned me because I stuttered a little and was a little confused because she said she’d remake my husband’s food but not mine because “I made your wrap, I know you got it.” She didn’t realize I had just gotten done with 12 hours of flying at noontime, so clearly didn’t get any sleep and that’s why I was flustered and a bit confused why I couldn’t get the wrap I ordered. I was very polite and don’t understand why she thought I was trying to steal a wrap. Anyway, another young woman pointed out my wrap was sitting on the counter behind the register the entire time. The person who was refusing to remake my food mustered a “sorry bout that”. It was an arugula burger on a wrap and it was very flavorless and I ended up only eating half because I was starving, but definitely didn’t like it.
We eat at vegan restaurants often. I highly doubt we will be back to this one after being accused of stealing because someone there forgot to put my food in our bag and couldn’t take a moment to look around their work space to realize I wasn’t lying. Hoping that worker reads this because I was quiet and respectful for the entire encounter and she misread my confusion as being nervous or something when it was literal exhaustion. Take a few seconds to consider the person you’re accusing of theft may already be having a hard day and doesn’t need you to treat them like a thief and deserves a full on apology for your behavior and your error. P.S. With that many workers, someone could have put my wrap in the wrong to go order as well. Don’t be so quick to accuse customers of theft!
We ended up eating in because my husband and child got hungry while waiting for the staff to finally...
Read moreI would NEVER have thought that I would have some of the best vegan food I've ever had in Nashville ... but I did.
First of all, their veggie burger is perhaps one of the best veggie burgers I've ever had. I appreciate that they weren't trying to pass it off as meat, but rather a hearty patty made with rice and probably beets along with other veggies that was both filling and had a great texture. I couldn't decide between the Southern BBQ veggie burger or the Garlic Mushroom one, so I asked the lady who was taking my order, and she said that hands-down the Garlic Mushroom was the one to get, so I heeded her advice and I am SO GLAD that I did. Garlic, mushrooms, caramelized onions, and Sriracha aioli ... I practically melted in my seat from how good it was. The house-made gluten-free vegan bun wasn't bad ... maybe a tad dense and chewy, but I was glad to actually have a bun I could eat!
I also had their Smoky Southern Collards, which were so tasty, and the southern-style vegan & gluten-free cornbread. The cornbread was neither particularly savory nor sweet, so you could have added whatever you wanted to it, but it was somehow also delicious on its own despite being neither savory nor sweet!
And then I saw in their refrigerator case that they have a vegan gluten-free cookie dough parfaits, and if I hadn't been stuffed silly already, I would have gotten one. Next time.
In fact, I want to come back to Nashville JUST to come back to Sunflower Cafe, and try EVERYTHING on their menu. Everything is vegan (unless you add dairy cheese), and many items are gluten-free (clearly indicated on their menu), and they even have separate menus for people who want to eat oil-free...
Read moreThis was the first restaurant my mother and I ate at when visiting Nashville for the weekend. We were welcomed immediately by a cheerful crew and a large menu of Vegetarian and Vegan options. It was difficult to make a decision on one thing there were so many delicious looking options. They even had daily specials. The special that day was a Vegan crab cake with horse radish slaw on top of a bed of greens. Of course we had to get one! We also got two burgers to split. The Arugula Bistro and Garlic Mushroom Veggie Burgers. To drink we got Oogave Sodas from the fountain which I had never heard of before. We got the Watermelon Cream soda. One sip and I was hooked. It was so good I had to find a retailer to buy it by the six pack. As for the food. Amazing. Best Vegan crab cake I have ever had. It was the perfect texture and everything. We both agree that while they are both burgers were awesomely tasty the Garlic Mushroom burger took the cake. The price for two burgers a special and two drinks were a fabulous price too. I'm so happy we were able to eat here during our visit and highly reccomend it to any Vegetarians, Vegans or if you just want some...
