Heaven forbid you forget something there or if an employee makes a mistake. After a brief meeting with the owner, I was potentially going to run NIK at the Berryville location during the day with the promise of $500 a week, so later that evening my husband and I had dinner there to try out the food and spent well over $100 but I had forgotten my purse on the back of the chair. The next day I went to the Winchester location to learn the computers and informed him I had left my Coach purse there and about a hour in I witnessed the owner scream and cuss out one of his waitstaff in front of the entire restaurant and her customers in the most rude and demeaning way. I thought it was incredibly unprofessional and the poor waitress look humiliated as she held back tears. When I left I went straight to the Berryville location to pick up my bag and speak with the owner. I pulled my purse out and within a split second noticed the center zipper was open and my Coach wallet was gone. All hell broke loose from there on out. I watched the video from the night of, not from that day, and though you can see a waitress bring it to the hostess stand I could not see what anyone did once the door was opened since the angle of the camera prevented seeing anything that was happening when the door of the cabinet was opened. There were some questionable moments but no definitive proof since the staff stores their coats and bags in the same cabinet. The owner yelled at me for being stupid enough to accidentally forget my bag, like no one has ever left something of value at a restaurant before, refused to believe one of his staff would steal (though I had witnessed with my own eyes how poorly he treats and thinks of his staff) and I tried to explain that my wallet was 100% there when I left it and that it couldn't have sprouted feet and walked off. When I spoke to him on the phone after I left he hung up on me. I have NEVER experienced such an unprofessional, rude and degrading restaurant owner in my life. While the food may be good, but expensive, I would not justify giving a single dollar to an owner who treats his employees like trash. His other employees just gave me the, what can you do look when asked about his behavior, confirmed that that is how he is and that yes, it happens too often. A police...
Read moreWanted to like this place--Neighborhood Italian place to complete the perfect Berryville trifecta of incredible Thai (Sweet Basil) and Sushi/Ramen (Zen Ramen). So we walked in at 7:30. We were asked if this was our first time--it was--but that revelation was met with no welcome or explanation of the menu. We ordered Chicken Marsala to split with Spaghetti. Approx 40 min later the waiter stopped by and asked if we wanted another glass of wine (yes) and said "sorry for the wait--your meal is going to be right out). At 8:25 we informed the first person we successful called over that we were giving up on our meal and needed to leave. We were told our server would be over--he never came over. As we started to stand, another server came over to say "they're packing your meal to go". 3 min later, still no server or meal so we left cash for the 1.5 glasses of wine (no idea how much they cost--no beverage menu was ever provided) and walked out. Almost 1hr from order to departure.
I GET IT--this industry has been decimated and is struggling for staff. But tell us that--"Hey guys--we're short staffed and your meal is going to take longer than usual, but I'm going to check in every once in awhile with an update" OR , when your table hasn't had an update for 30 min, you say "Hey guys--I am so sorry about this. How about I bring a wine refill on the house and I'll get you your meal ASAP." Or some kind of other customer service. But---nothing. We will try it again, but not anytime soon.
I get it that the restaurant biz is hard--I worked in it on the front lines for almost a decade--but no excuse for not being communicative, perhaps apologetic, and giving customers a good experience to the best of...
Read moreThis restaurant doesn’t even deserve one star. The owner does not treat his staff with any sort of respect. Instead, he will yell, demean them, and even throw things when he becomes angry. I worked here for a number of months and thus witnessed this first hand. There is a certain pecking order thats been established in this restaurant. If you are favored by the owner you will receive benefits that other employees will not. However, if you are NOT you will most likely always get the brunt of his temper tantrums. Another employee threatened me to my face in front of the owner at one point, and i was told by him to apologize to her and respect her simply because she had been working there longer than i. Not only was that humiliating for myself, it also made me feel like the work environment was unsafe given that the owner had no means to take action upon one employee threatening another. In addition to that incident, another occurred a few weeks later when the owner cussed me out in front of all of the customers and sent me home because I didn’t make bread fast enough for a to go order that had only been sent back to the kitchen 3 minutes prior. The names i was called range from gender, race, and even sexual preference. Examples being: a “lesbian lover”, a “jerry springer broad”, “white trash”, and also “b*tch”. Needless to say i no longer work at NIKs and am glad that i dont, but the owner has refused to pay me for all of the hours i worked. Definitely will be reporting to the department...
