Editing review: I've been here a number of times and went for Father's Day, table of 8 at 2pm. Music was far too loud, couldn't hear the waitress, or anyone around our table which ruined the meal. They played music as if we're at a club. On top of the music being too loud, the dj was terrible. Cannot blend music, doesn't understand tempo or flow of music. We asked a few times if they could lower the volume but they refused. We would've ordered more drinks and food but we weren't comfortable and drank at home. Oh well.
Unfortunately, I won't dine in anymore and will just take the food to go if I decide to go back. The food is very good (except for their margaritas which are either made with old limes or a mix, ingredients are not fresh given the price) but service lacking. Very disappointed.
This is a *good restaurant. We went 1/18/25 and ordered rojo enchiladas, tbone steak, waffles, chicken tenders, California omelette and steak tacos.
The good: overall everything was very good and fresh. We received complementary donuts and enjoyed it with cafe de olla. The enchiladas had a very good sauce. The white rice was very good same with the guacamole, however I do wish it came with a bit more beans. T bone steak was cooked perfectly, just needed a bit more of a crust around it. The omelette was fluffy, had a good amount of cheese and vegetables, they provide a chipotle aioli but needed more that. The steak tacos were seasoned very well, tender, tasted like it was skirt steak, fresh micro greens with delicious white rice. My kids downed the waffles and chicken tenders, one of my boys is incredibly picky but loved the tenders.
The not so good: where we were sitting under the heater was pretty hot but they ended up turning down the heat without us asking which was nice. The cream for the coffee curd a bit in the coffee which means it sat out too long or it was expired. But they did provide another cafe with another cream fairly quickly. The cafe de olla was a bit too sweet for us, we added some water to tone down the sweetness.
Overall a very good restaurant, I appreciate the elevated experience and will absolutely be back. If you're looking for a good restaurant that has a variety type of foods that's elevated, this is the spot.
Edit. Went again because we enjoyed it so much. This time ordered the tampiquena, ceviche, enchiladas and chicken tenders. All were great, and I will absolutely order the...
Read moreI was looking forward to finally being able to try this place since it looks really nice and they were at the Pilsen Gourmet fest. My family, my mom and I arrived and waited about 20 min on a Sunday afternoon, which was expected. We were seated, and right away the table next to us began to complain about the time it was taking to receive the food (I should have been on guard at that point). Our waiter came and took our drink order and then came back to take our food order. My wife and I wanted to take advantage of their special posted on their front windows of a free beer with a burger order. The waiter said that special is only during the week not the weekend. I told him the sign on the window doesn't say that. He responded and said yes it's on there at the bottom very small. So I took his word for it. Food then took 40 minutes to come out, and it only came out because I had complained at the 30 minute mark to another waitress since our waiter was nowhere to be seen. Food arrived and was cold, and the burgers came out very rare, but at this point we didn't want to send it back. Waiter never came back to check on us. Once I placed my used napkins on my plate he ran over to clean up and asked if we needed boxes. I told him no because the burgers came out rare, he then snapped back defensively and said I can't take that off your bill you should have said something right away. I never asked for it to be removed from my bill, I just wanted him to be aware of it. Once it was time to pay, he had a credit card reader on him and hovered over me while I gave him a terrible tip (he earned it). This is a terrible practice for any restaurant, I have never had a waiter watch me finalize my payment like this. Once we left we checked out the special signs in the front windows and no where on that sign did it say only valid during the week (waiter lied). So I went back in to complain to manager, Rita, and she apologized but that was all. She also said this is good to know so that she can tell the owner so they can make changes. Isn't that her job as the manager to manage these issues? Also how do you expect customers to return if you don't offer a discount or even a free dessert to return after a poor experience like this? Service is definitely going to be this...
Read moreD'Nunez, please take this as constructive critizim from a customer view and from someone that loves to cook himself:
The food level is no where it needs to be. The hard ball end of the avacado was found it two different servings of guacamole, There is no indication of the weight of the steaks in the menu. I ordered the steak charred, which it was not. Also, the steak was thin, underseasoned and had the consistancy of choice steak
Also, there is no signature steak sauce for a restaurant that prides themselves on Steak. A1 was brought to the table with common hot sauces?? No, No No! One, the steak should never need a sauce like A1!! If a customer wanted A1, then serve it in a generic small thimble. But, never have A1 in view. It instantly makes me think that the steak flavor is bad or it's a cheap steak place like Ponderosa.
Also, I ordered a strawberry margarita with a shot on the side of tequila. What I got tasted like a pre-mix (yuk) and a side shot of the premix...same color as the margarita...What!!!??
Bread was soggy with a fettucini alfredo. The shrimp cirviche had bits of tail and hardly any notible shrimp.
No house salsa's or homemade hotsauces!!??
Ketchup on packets!!?? Is this McDonald's?? How about a homemade ketchup aioli??
For 25 dollars for a ceviche, 50 bucks for a ribeye and high prices for most items (I understand the econonomy by sheeesh-OMG!), I expect top notch. You need signature dishes! How about steaks cut to order / size?
Take a page out La Parra: Quaility of food, price, drink, service and able to see the kitchen working, are all excellent things to steal.
The waiter was nice, however he didnt seem to understand what was being put out was sub-par.
Now the good stuff: The layout is beautuful and is one of the best interiors of any restaurant in Berwyn or surrounding areas.
