Waldo Cooney's Pizza — Restaurant in Berwyn

I wanted to order a supreme pizza from this location. This experience took place on November 1, 2023 at 8:45 pm. There were a few people ahead of me. No one was at the front counter. It took about 10 minutes before someone finally came to service us hungry patrons. I get to the front counter and ask about their specialty pizzas. At this point the manager was handling my order because of something that happened with a previous customer. He and his coworker. After asking about the specialty pizzas they gave me a bizarre look and were wondering what that was. The pizzas that you sell at your establishment listed on the menu. The pre-customized pizzas in the labeled section titled Specialty. So after some back and forth with that, my next question was: do you make your pizzas fresh from scratch? Again, another look of bewilderment. However when my friend asked the question a different way, somehow they seemed to comprehend perfectly. How long does it take to make a pizza? At least 30 minutes. How much for a slice of pizza? $5 + tax. The pizza that I ordered was a pepperoni slice and a sausage slice. The pizza had flavor, but it didn't taste all that fresh. It took a lot of effort to even bite through it (just the pepperoni slice). The sausage slice was tastier and fresher! I'm amazed by all that has changed since returning to Chicago! When did a jumbo pizza become $38.99??? A 1 liter of RC is $2.65?! The people working at this establishment either don't know the menu or don't want to work. I'll definitely be a fan of Waldo Cooney's Pizza, but y'all have got to step your game up! It took too much effort just to order some food. The vibe was pleasant at all. I won't come back to this location for a variety of reasons. I just believe in phenomenal customer service, which was not provided! It almsot seemed forced. Though the pizza slices were huge, they didn't wow me like before! I'm not impressed with shoddy operations and mediocrity. Amazing Service & Delicious Pizza at a Family-Owned Gem!

Update (2025): I recently visited Waldo Cooney’s again, and I’m happy to say the amazing food and service are just as great as I remembered!

This was my second time visiting, and once again, I had a fantastic experience! The food was absolutely delicious—especially their pizza slices, which were just $5 each. Plus, they have a great deal on Tuesdays with 25% off whole pizzas!

What really made this visit special was the outstanding service. John, who served me, was incredibly welcoming. He’s a true people person—friendly, accommodating, and made me feel like family. He values customers. When I called ahead to ask about prices, he was just as kind and enthusiastic over the phone, making me feel comfortable before I even walked in.

I also love that Waldo Cooney’s is a family-owned business—John’s son is the owner, and you can tell they take pride in what they do. The warm hospitality and delicious food make this place a must-visit.

The restaurant itself is on the smaller side, making it a perfect spot for pick-up orders if you’re on the go. They also have slot machines inside, which is a fun little bonus for those who like to play while waiting for their food.

John truly made my day, and I’ll definitely be coming back....

Pizza is good and wings are delicious....but service has gone downhill. I have been a customer for years and today was an all around service fail. First, the driver called me 3 times to say that he was at the door and nobody was answering. I was on the porch and he was nowhere in sight and his attitude was rude. Second, I called to make note that I did not receive my 1 liter of pop that is advertised on the menus as a freebie with a larger pizza. The guy that answered the phone said that since Tuesdays is discount pizza day, no pop is given with orders. This is new to me because over the years I have never had this happen or heard of it. Third, I ordered chicken wings and they failed to send the ranch dressing that I specifically requested when ordering. I did not bother to call back and risk being told that since it's discount pizza day, dressing is not included. Not sure if there are new owners? But I will not be ordering or recommending...
