Went here for a friend's birthday party this past weekend and it was seriously a BLAST! Had not had this much fun in a while and I will be telling all my girlfriends about how LIT the day party here is!
You wouldn't know to look at it but La Lupita has a rooftop section and bar. The bonus here is that it is enclosed so you don't have to worry about getting too cold or the wind messing up your hair or anything like that...but the windows all open to let in the summer breeze.
My friend reserved a table at the rooftop section for the group to have brunch, which was available from 11a-4p. The brunch was a buffet and was $25 --it included rice, beans, papas, French toast, tortilla chips, and some proteins, most notably the machaca which was delicious! As a part of the brunch offers, you can also get a wristband for bottomless mimosas for an additional $25 and there is also a separate menu of cocktails that are available.
Now, what made this so much fun was the DJ. He read the room, knew his clientele and played hit after hit after hit and we could not sit down. He played all kinds of music including banda, salsa, merengue, reggeaton, cumbia, rap...I mean it was a fantastic set!
Additionally, the staff coordinated with him a few times while we were there so that every time everyone ordered shots, the Li'l Jon song would come one, if there was a birthday, he would play the birthday song, and because the space was so intimate all the parties ended up meeting each other and celebrating together.
Anita and the staff (two other bartenders whose names are escaping me!) did an awesome job making sure everyone had drinks, grabbing water, and in general having a good time with us! They were totally in on the fun and it was so appreciated.
One other fun bonus was the photographer! She came around and took a few snap shots of the group and of the birthday girl and maybe 30 minutes later, she came back with printed and framed images of the photos she took ready to sell them to whomever wanted them. I cannot recall the price for each of the frames but it was a nice touch to have someone there to capture the fun.
Once the DJ left (promptly at 4!), it was clear the atmosphere and the good times were all thanks to the DJ set but we stayed a little longer to wrap up. The staff was accommodating and let us hang out until we were ready to head out. Such a great staff here!
Overall, I had an awesome time here. The food was good, the drinks were plenty, and the music was on point. Best day party in Berwyn and I would go out of my way from the NW suburbs to...
Read moreCame here with my boyfriend, sister, and friends. The service overall was terrible; asked for a margarita with mezcal, and they said they couldn’t make it because the margarita was a premix. When I asked for a mezcal drink on the menu but substitute it for lemonade instead of pineapple juice (since I’m not a big fan), they said they didn’t have lemonade or anything else.. (what is the margarita mix of?). Margarita was pretty watered down and tasted like cheap white tequila; my boyfriend and I ordered quesabirrias and an order a flautas. Quesabirrias were good, flautas were okay… SPEAKING ABOUT the flautas: when the waiter took our order, he didn’t ask what type of flautas we wanted, and assumed we wanted chicken. After he left, and when he came back, I noticed someone else in the table was asked which type of flautas they wanted, I asked which ones we got, and he said Chicken; my boyfriend preferred steak, and they said they couldn’t change it. Also, my cousin wasn’t sure of what she wanted, and the waiter said if she didn’t order with the rest of us, she wouldn’t be able to order at all… what?? Last but not least, it seems the waiter didn’t care if we liked his service or not, because we were 6 people at the table, and we automatically got charged 20% service fee with the option to tip more. ALSO, a photographer kept asking if we wanted her to take pictures of us (probably to sell them to us) and we all said no. NEVER coming back again, please don’t come here. I could keep going on with a lot more that happened, but I think I covered enough. VERY overpriced, terrible service, atmosphere was meh, and I think you could spend the amount of money we spent on a way nicer, yummier place. I rarely leave bad reviews, but I was already a bit iffy on coming here, and after dining here, I was even more upset of what a waste of my time and money it was. Even considered getting up and leaving after that one margarita, but I was starving and decided to give it a try....
Read moreCame here on a Friday night about 8pm and was told there'd be about an hr wait. About 40 min later, I received a call when our table was ready. FYI, they also have outdoor seating.
The restaurant is decent. Not too crowded and the tables are spaced comfortably. I immediately ordered a mango margarita. We were seated at 8:45pm. Waiting, waiting, waiting. The waiter came back to the table to take food orders, and I asked about my drink and he said they were making it. The margarita did not come to my table until 9:10.
The margarita was nothing more than a mango drink, very sweet. There was no alcohol in it. None. It didn't taste like there was alcohol in it, and I didn't feel any effect of there being alcohol in it. I hadn't eaten since 10am that morning. Usually, on an empty stomach if I consume alcohol, there's an immediate buzz or some reaction. I didn't get a buzz. I didn't feel ANYTHING. It was also served with a paper straw. I hate those things. The drink was pretty, tho 🤷🏾♀️.
The food was also slow to come out and it wasn't hot when they brought it to the table. I never complain at restaurants, so it was what it was. I ordered 1 steak taco and 2 pork. Beans and rice come with it. The tacos are on the smaller side. However, what they lack in size they make up for in flavor. They were seasoned to perfection. They were really good! The rice and beans were also very good. Again, the portions are smaller compared to other places I've been. After 2 spoons of beans, I was already halfway through them.
There was live entertainment that sang and played the guitar around 9:30pm. I'd consider this a decent place to take a date but definitely not a place to go for drinks. If you're into virgin drinks, maybe...but if you're looking for a drink with a kick, this ain't the place. I'll probably go back before summer is over and give the drinks...
