My husband and I placed a to go order through their website 9-29 around 8PM and the website was easy enough to manage and the order said it would be ready in 15-20 minutes. My husband was the one who picked it up so I can’t speak the atmosphere or service there. I ordered a pulled pork plate with a side salad and Mac and cheese. The side of Mac and cheese was really tiny but it’s some of the best I’ve ever had. The side salad was a good portion and even came with packets of croutons which impressed me but they gave me fat free ranch instead of regular so it tasted funny :( The pulled pork was good meat, not a lot of fat or gristle in it (which is a huge issue for me at other BBQ places because I can’t eat it if it’s got too much) so that was good but it was almost as if it hadn’t been smoked very long?? There just wasn’t a good smoky flavor to it which is weird because the whole block smells like them grilling all throughout the day every day. The BBQ sauce that came with the pulled pork was actually really good and I used it on my meat which I hardly ever do so that’s saying something. My husband got a combo plate with pulled pork and 1/2 chicken fried okra and corn on the cob. Let me just say that’s some of the best BBQ chicken I’ve had in my life and if we go back I’ll probably just get that. He said it’s the same sauce as what I got with the pulled pork but it tasted WAY better so idk, maybe it’s just because it was all over the chicken so it had a nice Smokey flavor because the chicken actually had that. He said the okra was good and he was impressed it was a full corn cob and not one of the tiny ones. He also ordered a pecan pie and he said it was just alright. I got us a gallon of tea and it was warm, they told him when he got there that they had just run out and just made fresh tea but it tasted sour and had an odd hint of BBQ/Smokey flavor to it, so I don’t know how much I believe it was fresh and if it was they need to clean whatever the make tea in WAY more frequently and/or thoroughly. We spent $50 which I feel like is a little steep for what we got compared to other places but I’m not totally mad at it either because it was at least a decent portion of meat although the side of Mac and cheese left more to be desired for sure. We’ll probably be back and give the pulled pork...
Read moreI was so happy to meet my out-of-town relatives at our local Bessemer Bob Sykes. The parking lot was full, the drive-thru extended all the way out to the main road, but since this has been a part of our city as long as we can remember we thought it would be a great place to reminisce and enjoy our meal. Imagine the disappointment when the older blonde headed lady that was taking orders at the counter dosplayed a terrible disposition. I'm not sure if she doesn't like her job or she didn't want to be at work. When asking to have something added to my sandwich she frowned and said "On the sandwich? You want that on your BBQ?" She did the same thing when my sister asked to have something added to her potato. And even though it was barely 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, my poor brother ordered the smoked wings and without even checking we were told those were "out for the day". So he changed to the leg quarter platter, and after taking the side items and the drink, she came back to let us know that they were out of leg quarters also. Without an apology she stated that he could have the half chicken. Which was a breast, a leg,a thigh and a wing. Which is a far cry from the smoke wings, which we started with. I couldn't help but wonder, what's the restaurant sold out of wings and leg quarters? Did management forget to order chicken? Or once it is cooked does no one prepare anymore? Even if it's early on a Saturday ? The young girls that were waitressing we're very kind and were the best part of the experience, they consistently checked our table for refills and any request that we may have had. When finishing our meal we notice that our dessert was not present with the order, but the lady that was working in the desert area was very kind and passed it out to us quickly. The food was nothing special, the atmosphere was noisy and overly crowded. We sat at a set of tables that had been pushed together by the windows and both were...
Read moreGreat food, nice atmosphere, and genuinely nice staff! I will definitely be back and spread the word about this "must visit" restaurant.
My experience was awesome starting from before I entered into the restaurant. The first thing I noticed was the sign outside the door that read ASAP and clarified "As Southern As Possible". Then as I stepped inside there was the delicious smell of the food cooking, and the open grill cooking on my right with a smiling welcoming cook. As I looked around I realized that I needed to go to the counter to order, and the menu was up on the wall behind the cashiers (like a fast food chain). As we stepped across to look over the menu we were welcomed by the politeness of the cashier. She asked if she could help us and take our order, and she was more than helpful to us newbys. She was courteous, patient, and took time to answer our questions and checked to see how to best place the order for the food we wanted. The sweet tea was fresh. The food was fresh, fast, and delicious. We had some to go orders that we needed also, and they even took those orders and waited until we were ready to go to prepare the food so it would not get cold while we enjoyed dinner. Then even after we were seated, and eating our food various members of the staff kept a regular check on is with a kind hearted "is everything okay?" and "Is there anything I can get for you?". The cashier that took our order even came out to check on us. It was just a wonderful overall experience from...
