It is a beautiful dining room. The ambiance is lovely. We were seated and finally given menus about ten minutes later. Appetizers came in a timely manner. Two people ate the jumbo shrimp and really enjoyed them. I ordered soup. It arrived at the same time as the shrimp but I wasn't given a spoon. The waiter told me he'd get me a spoon and then proceeded to take the order from the table behind ours. My husband interrupted him, saying my wife has no spoon to eat her soup and the waiter said that he knew and he'd get it for me after he took the order. Dinner took an incredibly l-o-n-g time to arrive. My father was served halibut with a few sprigs of herbs. My roasted chicken was delicious. After dinner coffee was poured and was cold. My parents told the waiter the coffee was cold and he took their cups and said I'll be back. Everyone's desserts arrived at the same time except for mine. Everyone finished their desserts before mine finally arrived. It was dropped in front of me before I could say I had no fork! So, once again I sat with food in front of me with no utensil in which to eat it. Finally a fork arrived! I had chocolate ganache cake which didn't resemble a cake but looked like two KitKat bars. It was cold and hard to cut with my fork. At no time did the waiter apologize for any of these major mistakes except for the long wait for our food. Not having utensils to eat the food sitting in front of you in a beautiful restaurant like this where the prices are steep is unconscionable. I will never go there again! It was extremely...
Read moreThe good: Excellent service. The bad: Horrible food and limited menu. I was so underwhelmed by what was plated that I don't think words can do it justice. This restaurant has a great setting and appears to have all the makings of a fine dining experience, until the food comes out and you realize that 1741 on the Terrace is merely playing "dress-up" as a 5 star dining location and not actually cooking the food to match it's exorbitant pricing. I had the Osso Buco Lamb Shank and I was amazed at the bland flavors that it offered. The veggies weren't cooked to a proper texture and the mashed potatoes tasted like something you'd find at a buffet. I'm no chef and I can honestly say I could've made a much tastier meal more fitting of a $30+ price tag.
My girlfriend had a a pork loin that was so bland and dried out that she had to send it back. In addition, her fingerling potatoes were still hard in the middle!
I don't pretend to be a food critique but I honestly did not feel at all satisfied, happy, or even mildly excited about a single thing I tasted that night. I have been to many restaurants in Bethlehem and Allentown and I can honestly say this was the worst one, which was not at all what I expected given the restaurants beautiful setting and seemingly refined menu!
TL;DR: Awful food, nice location, great...
Read moreStrange meal at Hotel Bethlehem Terrace restaurant. We made lunch reservations on line (and their website and Google said it was open) but when we arrived they said to eat in the bar area in lobby instead. We asked why the terrace wasn’t open for our reservation and they said it is, but they usually seat people at the bar for lunch. I think they shouldn’t advertise the terrace room for lunch then🤷🏻♀️. The food was horrible, really poorly made. Kids each had Mac and cheese of kids menu and it had too much oily cheese in it. My sons Shirley temple had food debris in it. My pappardelle was tasteless; I added salt but it just didn’t help, there was no flavor. My husband said it tasted as plain as water. His meal consisted of cold, soggy fries and a fried green tomatoes sandwich that only had flavor in the sauce on the bun. The beef barely soup was also described as tasteless. The only good dish was the turkey club which was very good. The servers were very helpful and the room is beautiful, but they should use fresh flowers or clean/dust the fake ones they use everywhere as they were very...
