Always a treat going here. We love it!

the workers are disrespectful and hung up the phone on me because they don’t know the difference between oil and aioli. i asked for aioli on the side which i ask for everytime and they covered my sandwich in it. after i spent 50 dollars on lunch i called back to ask them if i can get a new sandwich and their response was “i put oil on the side” very rudely. i was trying to explain that i was talking about the aioli and she just cut me off and hung up. there is a way to approach customers if there is a misunderstanding on their end and that is not the way. i have been coming here for years and will never be back.

If you are looking for a real home cooked meal, go to the Black Forest Deli. This neighborhood eatery is owned and operated by Ukrainian immigrants. The menu reflects many of the traditional meals of their homeland. On the 3rd Saturday of the month they have a 5 course brunch (no reservation required). Where you do need a reservation is for the 5 course Kiev dinner. Seating is very limited so reserve ASAP. On my visit I counted 8 varieties of pierogi. The service is pleasant, the meals are filling and the prices are reasonable for home cooking. Can't wait to go back.

I've been visiting this establishment for years and it is always amazing. The staff is quite friendly and the prices are very reasonable. The food is mouth wateringly delicious. My favorite soups are the Chicken Noodle and the Rassolnik, dill pickle soup, might sound weird but try it, seriously! There's your standard deli fare with flare that is always tasty, try the macaroni & potato salads, you won't be sorry.

Vareniki (perogi) anyone?! Unlike the mass produced ones in the frozen food section, these are also homemade, like everything else, and AMAZING. You can get them with many different flavors; my favorite are the traditional potato and the fresh berry filled ones; another that should be tried at least once in your life.

Looking for more? In the entree/kiev section there is so much awesome to choose from, my go to's are definitely the schnitzel but hey, why not try them all.

Next time you stop in the BFD be sure to ask Vica, Mamochka, or any of the other friendly helpers about Kiev fun, and don't...

Amazing!! Walked in and i was immediately greeted and treated amazing. She gave us amazing recommendations and ontop of everything the food was quite literally amazing. My borscht was very hot and made me feel amazing perfect combination. The beet salad was just delicious. I had the herring and onions and i have never eaten fish like that never even had sushi, but that was the best thing I’ve had and only for 5 dollars. Prices were reasonable. The sweet farmer cheese pierogies were to die for and she made us feel so welcomed invited us for more foods and gave us sweets afterward. The environment is warm. I felt like i was treated amazingly. Please go and support they have so many differnt flavors of pierogies so many sandwiches and deals. If you have the chance don’t skip it. It’s hard to describe the feelings i felt eating and sitting there. Amazing women!! I applaud them for the work they do and have friendly they are doing it!!!!!! Try the best...

A great ethnic jem, amazing food some of the best I have eaten in long time. This is real food not contemporary trendy or another burger with an egg craft beer joint. it’s all made by hand brought to the table by the very people who did the cooking, imagine that. The schnitzel was wonderful with its delicious mushroom gravy on a bed of fluffy mashed potatoes it was heaven. I told the owner chef it was one of the best things I have eaten out in a long time. The sandwiches were beautiful piled high with real meat sliced from a whole turkey breast. The soup I had a Russian dumpling soup was delicious. The chicken papirkash was delicious delivered over fluffy egg noodles. We ordered a sampler of the home made pierogies. The dough was lite and delicious the fillings sublime. Prices are very reasonable and the atmosphere is down home with a few table and some outdoor seating. Don’t miss this wonderful step back in time to old world food made with care...
