We were vacationing in Kennebunkport and happened to have a conversation with someone sharing our experiences at restaurants making suggestions to each other about where to go. My girlfriend asked about pizza as she had a hankering for it, where I wanted to keep indulging in the fresh seafood being offered locally. Well the nice lady told us if we really appreciate GREAT pizza we should check out Colletti's. 15-20 minutes ride and we came across this simple looking building and walked into this very simple, plain restaurant with just a two seat bar style area The scent that hits you as walk thru the door told me right away we were in for a great, flavorfull food experience. Ordered our pizza, the napolitian witb adding thier wonderful HOME MADE SAUSAGE and bacon. I almost pulled over on the way back to our rental as the increadable intising aroma was making me salivate. It was almost an argument with my wonderful girlfriend who got me to wait. With the sound of the ocean coming into the windows we sat and had our first slice. I almost mistankly wanted to devour the slice all at once after the first taste, but good sense prevailed and I slowly chewed this incredible, delicious pizza enjoying every DELECTABLE bite! This was the best pizza I have had in over 15 years since when I was in NJ for work and found another increadable place. To be clear there is NO place in the Boston area INCLUDING the North End that comes close to this treasure of a pizza palace! Factory is not how I would describe this artisian, flavorfull jem of handmade greatness! On the way home on Saturday we ordered 6 pizzas to take home and freeze to enjoy and remember a great vacation that had a delicious ending. We will return to this palace anytime we are back in the area! The owner and his wife are also the nicest people and I happily...
Read moreI have to say that I’ve had hundreds of people tell me how good this place is. Some said “best pizza in Maine” and you’ve gotta try this pizza. My first impression was noticing how diligent and friendly the counter helper was. Great employee who was very proud to work there. I was also very impressed with the fact that the owner is the only person that makes the dough and cooks all the pizzas. That’s no easy task, especially when they’re in high demand. The dining room was no-frills, pretty straightforward with about four tables, and a few bar seats. I ordered two pizzas to go. One was a margarita pizza which I added pepperoni to and the other was a specialty pizza called the volcano. That one had crust on top sort of like a calzone. I have to be honest about my experience. I didn’t think the pizza was great. I may have caught them on a bad day. I found the crust to be dense and chewy and the center didn’t seem to be cooked thoroughly. The box was soaked with grease probably from the pepperoni. The pizza was very soggy and floppy. The Volcano lacked flavor, and something about the ricotta cheese, gave it a grainy taste. The eggplant inside could’ve use some salt. A little bitter tasting. Pizzas did take about 25 minutes, so that’s something to be prepared for. I’ll definitely give this place another try as I liked everything about the business and...
Read moreI finally made it to Coletti's for dinner. I ordered a pepperoni sausage and onion pizza. They told me it would be ready in 20 minutes. When I arrived, the pizza was ready to go. After paying $27.00 for my pizza, I took it home and couldn't wait to eat it. When I opened the box. The edge crust was a little burnt and I didn't mind that too much, after all it is a fresh dough hand tossed pizza. I picked up my first slice and on the first bite, it just did not taste right. Maybe it was just me. So, I took another bite. Same thing. I looked under the crust and it was black. This pizza was completely burnt and completely overshadowed the taste of the pizza. I have eaten pizza crust that was well done before, but nothing like this. The underneath was so burnt it left the bottom of the box charred. It was a complete turn off. I managed to pick a few pieces of toppings off the pizza. I don't know what they use for sausage but from the looks of it, they took a real sausage and sliced it into such thin slices, you could see through it and was extremely salty. Eventually it went by way of my trash can. I think that paying $27.00 for a pizza, I would expect to be able to eat it. I live 22 miles from this restaurant so bringing it back was not even an option. You can read my review and tell me to save my money and not come back and my response would be don't...
