FILTER-Coffee Parlor — Restaurant in Birmingham

The Coffee: I had a Doppio (Double Shot Espresso) and it was full and rich and delicious and my wife had a beautifully hand-crafted latte. Both were to perfection and well priced for a specialty coffee shop. They have a wall of beans of various roasts behind the counter just BEGGING to be tasted, so we will definitely be back soon, as should any coffee lovers in the Birmingham area.

The Atmosphere: This is one of the chillest and maybe the most unique coffee shop in Birmingham. It is somehow both fully modern and out of the 50's at the same time. They have an upstairs sitting area perfect for hanging out with 1-3 friends and studying, workshopping ideas, or getting some work done. Great music selection with a lot of variety when my wife and I were in there for an hour or so.

Ok, so I loved the atmosphere of this coffee shop and was considering becoming a regular but the owner is very rude. Yesterday, he was yelling at a barista saying he had so much on his plate. The kind barista offered to help as much as she could to alleviate his workload. This seemed to be just a small glimpse of the abuse from this man. Another customer and I exchanged worried glances as we watched in horror.

I observed how he treats all of the customers and he is equally short and agitated, only treating people who are his friends with any kindness. His treatment of people reminds me a lot of the owner of Parkside in Avondale, and we all know what happened to it.

To the barista: get out of there girl. Enduring a work environment like that is neither healthy nor normal.

Great service, great coffee. I was offered a student discount even though I’m currently enrolled at a different university other than UAB, so I was very appreciative of that. Ordered the Cioccolato Dark Cherry seasonal drink, is served hot in a 16oz, I got it iced as a 24oz. Person taking my order made sure to let me know it had 4 shots of espresso, I wasn’t aware of this so I was thankful he let me know, so he offered a half-caf alternative to ensure the best possible quality. I didn’t even have to wait 5 minutes before they had my drink ready. The drink itself is delicious, chocolate and cherry always go well in coffee, so I highly recommend this seasonal drink.
