Meh. Don't get me wrong, the pizza is good, but $30 good, no. I've had AVPN(certifed Neapolitan) pizza way cheaper and way better. Now comes the story.
During my travel here from Cincinati had plenty of time to think. One of my thoughts, anchovy, pineapple, jalapeno pizza. Why not, you have salty, umami, sweet, and spicy. Saw a mellow mushroom after missing a turn for my hotel. Have heard of the chain before and thought I would check it out. Wow, they had everything I wanted to try. Pricy, but ok. They also listed a pesto sauce, wanted to try that too.
It was getting late after greeting family at the airport so just stopped in-person on way back to hotel. Inside looks ok, door is loud when it closes. I ask for price of large maui wowi to compare and immediately told they're out of pesto sauce. After some thought I decide that eventually I wanted to try out my grand design with with regular pizza sauce eventually, so I proceed with my order. After a few minutes I am told they are out of anchovies too. This was ok because I had an ace up my sleeve, I packed a can of anchovies in my checked luggage. Winner winner anchovies for dinner 😍
Summarized critique. $3 for jalapenos. C'mon. You pay at most 10 cents for a fresh jalapeno and I doubt it was a fresh, let alone full, jalapeno. If you put even 25 cents, out of your pocket, worth of any vegetable topping on your pizzas I would be surprised. Out of 1/3rd of total stuff I want just to make my custom pizza, unacceptable for the few customers and orders I saw. With multiple items missed you don't teach your staff to try and right the wrong by offering a discount, future coupon, or some small comp? I didn't ask for that, may have accepted, but offer would have been nice. I think a 20% voucher on next visit, non-expiring, would have brought be back and postponed a review. Reason for 2 stars instead of 1, very polite and apologetic staff with really good pizza. But remember, this is a overall review, not just...
Read moreLast night (Sunday at 8:30) my husband and I went to the Mellow Mushroom on 20th Street in Birmingham for dinner. We asked to be seated on the patio. The hostess told us to go outside and have a seat and said she would meet us out there. She never came, but after a few minutes, a waitress stopped to see if we had been helped. She gave us menus and said she would be right back. We realized that the drink menu was not on the regular menu and asked her to bring a drink menu. She took our pizza order and said that she would be back with a drink menu. She brought the drink menu and never returned to take our drink order. After about 20 minutes I went to the bar to order our drinks. It took the bartender several minutes to acknowledge me. I explained to him that we had a table, and that nobody had been back to take our drink order. He didn't seem concerned about this at all. He took my order and I told him that I was going to the restroom and that I would stop back by to pick up the drinks (which should have been brought to our table). I offered to pay then and he said I could pay when I got back from the restroom. I went to the restroom and went back to the bar, assuming that my drinks would be waiting. He never acknowledged me when I returned, nor did he have my drinks prepared I sat there for 10 minutes waiting for him and he never said anything to me. I left the bar area and went back to the table. After a few more minutes, we decided to leave without food or drinks. The service was terrible and the entire process seemed unorganized. I will not be back and I would never recommended this place to anyone.
Update: I emailed the owner as he suggested and I have yet to hear from him. I can see why his employees act as they do if they are following...
Read moreAs a former employee of two Mellow Mushroom locations, one in Midtown Atlanta and the other in Downtown Bham, I expected so much more from them. I haven’t had them in so long and was excited to try it after a long time. But was disappointed beyond belief. First I was served disgusting looking beer cheese. I thought that maybe the recipe had changed but no, not at all. I made a complaint to my server who informed me that it was a bad batch and apologized for serving the “disgusting-looking” cheese. I asked was there anymore and she replied saying that she didn’t think they were making anymore that night. After a little while, she returned to say that luckily I was the second person to complain, so they did make a new batch. Lol wow ok. It took 2 people to get better quality food. I honestly felt like I was the first person and someone else complained which led to the change. But it didn’t end there. I requested light baked pizza but she did inform me that they didn’t really do that anymore so I said it’s fine. But my pizza came missing one ingredient, which led to them just adding the pepperoni on top and putting it back in the oven, making it even harder. By this point, I was feeling sick. Not sure if it was the old cheese or the pollen on the table but on the ride home, I felt completely horrible. Regretted the whole experience. I contacted corporate first to avoid making a bad review but they were no help at all. The server was able to get 25% off my pizza but bare...
