Working in Birmingham, AL for an extended period of time and Jim 'N' Nick's was right up the street from both my hotel and my work site so we stopped in for lunch one time. Listen, I enjoyed myself SO MUCH that I returned 2 more times for dinner! Here's why!

Atmosphere/Appearance: This place is huge and has a fairly large footprint for being in a downtown setting. No private parking, but there's plenty of street parking. Once inside you're greeted by a wide-open dining room and a big center bar with seating on 3 sides. There are dining booths on both sides and plenty of standard tables. If you walk on the left side of the bar and head toward the back you'll see the to-go section where you can walk right up to the counter and order your food to roll out with.

Service: I can't remember the name of our servers, but we sat at the bar each time and everyone was wonderful. As a collective they were funny, sweet, likeable and personable.

Food: Like I mentioned, the first time we came, it was for lunch. Then they dropped those complimentary cheesy muffins in front of us, I was befuddled, beside myself and just bewildered. They were AMAZING. I could've eaten JUST THOSE for lunch and been so happy. However, for lunch I wanted something light and went with their Chopped Southern Salad which consists of smoked chicken, smoked onions, sweet corn, cheddar cheese, bacon, cucumber, tomatoes, almonds and homemade croutons then tossed in house-made vinaigrette. It was delightfully fresh, yet filling and savory. I loved it. However, I saw they had smoked wings so on my next visit I came in for those... I was able to try 2 flavors, their Buffalo and Morgan Co. White Sauce (also knows as Alabama BBQ sauce). They were DELIGHTFUL. This may have been the first time I was able to try an Alabama BBQ sauce and I really liked it's savory-ness. It's a mayonnaise-based sauce which gives it its white color and rounded flavor. The Buffalo was thick and hearty, better than a watery traditional Buffalo sauce. On my 3rd visit I tried out their Combo Plate. On it was their smoked turkey, fried catfish and beef brisket. On the side was a salad and a lil' cup of mac & cheese. The food was so delicious it really made me think this place was like a one-off. Much to my surprise there are Jim 'N' Nick's BBQ places ALL OVER THE SOUTH! Nice job guys.

Value: It's a BBQ place and usually they aren't cheap. I feel like $30.00 is enough to come here and pig out with!

In conclusion, I loved it here... That's why I hit this place up 3 times. Lol. I will certainly pay this place a return visit or check out another one if I'm...

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this location before now. But, better late than never right?

On this recent trip one fine Sunday evening, I decided that my palate deserved BBQ. And Jim n Nicks was my restaurant of choice. After looking over my menu (by the way I was seated promptly and drink brought out almost instantaneously, I ordered the riblet small plate with two sides. However my server Aaron suggested for the same price that I order the 1lb of classic ribs, which they would cut into riblets for me, and in turn have more meat than I would've had with just the small plate. In all honesty, I really just wanted the small plate to try the ribs since I normally order the pull pork. But after considering how nice Aaron was to share this info with me, I took him up on his suggestion.

The food came out quickly. I ordered deviled eggs and mac&cheese for my sides. Both were great choices. The ribs were nice and tender and I sampled both sauces that were available on the table. The habanero is great but a little too spicy for me. The traditional was my pick of the night. Aaron was very attentive throughout my meal and was a great server. I truly appreciated his kindness in helping me with my order. Good service is hard to come by nowadays, so when I receive it, I make sure I let the higher ups know. Upon signing my receipt, I left Aaron a nice thank you note on the top. Hopefully both he and the managers will read it.

Jim n Nicks is a staple in the city. Love that they support and give back to the community. For that, they will always have a fan in me. 5 solid stars is what they...

I've been here probably 6-8 times since 2003. I live out of town now but we were in town today with my two year old boy so I thought I would take him here to eat. We were seated immediately and I put him in his high chair. There were three tables right next to us that were already seated or eating. We sat there 15 minutes, yes, I timed it. Not one person even acknowledged us. The waiter on the three tables came by several times and a few employees walked by. So I started getting him up and still no one said anything. We walked by the hostess on the way out and nicely said "no one came to see us so we are leaving". There was no "sorry" or anything. She said ok and had a demeanor like so what who cares.

Others may have had great experiences here. Just telling you mine and I will never go back there again. I won't visit the one in gardendale or cullman again as well.

By the way, we left and went to dreamland bbq and they gladly served us, very professional, great service. I'm glad that happened bc dreamland was great. And I won't go back to Jim/nicks.

By the way to the managers of Jim/nicks, since you probably think I'm paid bc I said dreamlands was good- look at your security cameras today around 2:30 pm. When you walk in front door, we were seated to the far left against that wall by ourselves (three tables were to the right of us) but we were only ones on the wall. Look for yourself. I will not come back bc of my experience here today. It's hard enough getting a hungry kid out and in. But your staff was very disrespectfully not even acknowledging us,...

I have eaten at many jim n nicks and each time leave thinking the food overall is only OK, not good or great. I had the brisket sandwich and potato salad this time, nothing wrong with it but I wonder how the brisket is cooked. No smoker flavor at all. I end up with sandwich in one hand and bbq sauce bottle in the other. Good brisket does not need a lot of sauce. My son had a burger, well done, that was pink in the middle and the loaded potato was unimpressive. Two stars mainly is for the service. It took 40 minutes to get food at 4:00 in the afternoon and we were one of maybe three tables occupied. Had one hour on the parking meter and used it all by the time we left. Final thought, check me on this. In my experience when I express to friends my mediocre opinion of the barbeque here, I always get a comeback of how good the sides are. The exact reason I will go somewhere else for barbeque from now on.

Greeters were wonderful, courteous, and fun. It was a tad cold but bearable. On Sunday, they were out of brisket and bbq corn. Presentation of food was okay. I had a platter pick two meats and get two sides. The turkey was great and juicy and the chicken dry. Food was like warm to cold. Potato salad and Mac(served mid warm) was very good. Children's plate of mac'n cheese with fries was okay. Served Luke warm. The waitress was great. She checked on us periodically. Got our order correct and made great recommend items on what to try. The banana pudding was good. A tad pricey for such a small portion. Peach tea was very refreshing and not to southern diabetical sweet. (Thank goodness) 🤣 Cornbread rolls/biscuits were okay, cold not hot like they are usually served. Restaurant was clean, great historical decor and depiction of Birmingham. Needs for demographic variety and representation.
