Kelley's Fish & Seafood — Restaurant in Blair

Based on the other reviews, I'm hoping that our experience was just a fluke - nonetheless I felt compelled to write a review since it was overall a major disappointment. My family of 4 arrived early, there were plenty of open tables and seating (we counted 4 tables that had occupants in them when we arrived). Waitress that greeted us wasn't very warm or cheery, at least try to make some small talk with customers if you're a waitress. When she brought our drinks back to the table, she spilled on the table in front of my husband - didn't say anything or say 'sorry'. Delivered the drinks, walked away, came back with napkins and just sat them on the table and walked away. That's fine - we can clean the spilled drinks up ourselves - but lack of customer service was really apparent at this point with our waitress. We watched as other customers came in, sat down, were waited upon & got their food delivered (and finished eating) before us. 35 minutes after ordering, our waitress finally stopped by to see if we needed more water - we asked how much longer it would be for our food since other tables were being served before us. She explained that our son's hamburger takes longer to cook, so about another 5-10 minute wait (ended up taking another 20 minutes from when we asked). It took 55 minutes total to receive our food after we placed our order - during that time we watched other customers arrive after us, get their food, eat their meal, pay & leave before we even received our food. No apologies from our waitress, and the excuse that a kid's hamburger took longer to cook and that is why our meal was so delayed. I'm sorry - but that is about the worst excuse I've ever heard when I saw other hamburgers being delivered to tables that ordered after us. By the time we left (90 minutes after we arrived) the place was full. The lady running the cash register didn't ask us anything about our experience and no one checked on how our meal was. Overall, one of the most unpleasant experiences we've had in a long time. The waitress was absolutely terrible, no customer service skills & not people-friendly at all. We did see other waitresses who interacted really well with their tables and were cheerful - not our waitress. Waiting 55 minutes for our food (no special order items) in my mind was completely unacceptable given the fact that customers who arrived after us received their food & had time to eat it all before we were even served. We visited at the recommendation of my husband's co-workers. It was well worth the short, scenic trip to Blair. The interior is dimly lit in the evening, and it's a small, but comfortable place. You have the choice of wooden booths or tables. There were no steps, so it's accessible.

The fish is carp, walleye and catfish. We tried the carp and the walleye. They were tender and not greasy. The coleslaw was lightly creamy, really good. My husband had the dinner, which included curly fries. He said they were better than most. I was fine with just the fish and a side of coleslaw. The portions are 8 ounces (half pound the menu says) of fish, but they sure seem like a lot more. Plastic forks. Malt vinegar at each table.

The server checked on us regularly and kept our beverages refilled. Only cash and checks are accepted. We enjoyed it, and we look forward to...

Instead of having steak for my birthday I decided to try Kelly's fish and seafood place out that i heard was good. We asked for our fish to be cooked longer or crispy. While the catfish was crispy it was fishy. The Carp wasn't crispy at all and fishy. All the fish was unseasoned. The coleslaw was horrible...how do u mess up coleslaw? I had to ask for bread slices and received 2 slices of bread with butter on it. None of us finished our meals we just got to go boxes so we could take the fish home season it (hopefully get rid of the fishy taste) and put in an air fryer to reheat. That was the worst birthday meal I've had and I was embarrassed to have invited my family to eat that terrible food!! Me or my family will not be going back OR will recommend this place to anyone. As a matter of fact I just threw my to go box...
