This place was pretty good! The decoration is nothing fancy but it’s definitely nicer inside than you’d expect looking at the outside, and the hidden seating area in the basement is cool. There were a few things marked as unavailable on the menu, but thankfully nothing I wanted, and even so they still had a pretty wide selection of Japanese and Korean food. I ordered the dolsot bibimbap with tofu. Like most meals, it included miso soup and salad appetizers. Oddly enough the kelp in the miso soup stood out to me as being really good - it actually had some texture to it which is unfortunately not always the norm even at otherwise decent Japanese restaurants. The salad was fresh and the ginger dressing was strong and very tasty. The bibimbap was really good! It was my first time getting bibimbap in the stone pot and I was impressed when it came out sizzling and then kept sizzling. The cooked vegetables were cooked just right so that they still had a bit of crunch. The only things off for me were a matter of personal preference - the egg was fully cooked while I prefer a runny yolk, and there was some oil pooled on top, but the oil ended up being not very noticeable. It was nice that the sauce was served on the side so I could dress it to my liking. I had the “original spicy” sauce which definitely has a kick, but the sweetness cuts it a bit and it wasn’t so hot that I had to be sparing with it, but they also have a milder sauce for those that prefer less heat. I was there with one other person, and we got a table right away, but they were pretty much at capacity while we were there. Our food came out pretty quickly, though, especially since they brought out the soup and salad first. The prices were a big highlight - my bowl was only $14 and it was so big that I couldn’t finish, not to mention the complimentary soup and salad. Everything on the menu seemed like a good deal. My friend got a combo where he ordered ramen (which also comes with miso soup and salad) and added a roll of sushi for $3 - a ton of food for a relatively affordable price. But despite the low prices it didn’t taste cheap - it was simple stuff, but legit good food. I’d for sure come here again if I lived in...
Read moreThe first time I ate here was two years ago, and I remember thinking the ribs were absolutely delicious. My impression of this restaurant has always been very positive since then—until today. My husband and I came here for lunch and had a very disappointing experience.
First, the miso soup served before the meal had a strange taste, almost like dishwater. The dishes arrived fairly quickly. My husband ordered ramen, while I went for the regular Combo F, which includes my favorite tempura shrimp and ribs, along with a sashimi platter.
The sashimi was extremely unfresh and had a very unpleasant texture. The flavor of the rib sauce was good, but the meat was so tough that I had to eat an entire piece in one go because I couldn’t chew it properly. The ramen was mediocre at best. Overall, I would rate the food a 6/10.
Things got worse in the afternoon. Around 4 PM, I began experiencing sharp stomach pains and a strong urge to vomit. I had to stop working and rest for two hours, but by 6:30 PM, I still felt awful and ended up vomiting twice in the bathroom. Only after throwing up did I feel some relief. My husband also experienced diarrhea around 9 PM. Aboulutely not...
Read moreThis Korean meets Japanese cuisine is great tasting , it is right outside of the IU campus. My husband ordered the chashu Ramen, there was no detail or anything listed about Jalapenos being a part of the broth. So when his ramen was brought to him our server reminded him, if he doesn't like spicy broth just put the jalapenos off to the side (he did). The ramen was a broth with the flavor of Shoyu, chashu pork and heat at the back. I was so indecisive I didn't know what to order, but I love tuna so the server recommended I get the spicy tuna. I also asked for a suggestion on what to order as far as salmon , the server said people love the spicy salmon rolls so I got an order of that as well. I was thinking I was getting a basic order or spicy tuna&salmon rolls, but to my surprise the rolls were fresh and almost like they had cream cheese in them. I recommend sushi lovers try Ami, there's also a good selection of popular Korean dishes such as ; Japchae, Bulgogi, and bibimbap. So you are getting the best of both cultures mouth watering and...
