To start, I found the service from the bartenders and staff to be completely satisfactory. There wasn't a significant wait to be served and I was checked on while seated to see if I needed any additional service. It was quick and efficient.
I've noticed some of the other review saying the same thing, but I'll mention it just to be thorough. Smoking inside is kinda insane. This morning as I write this review I still have a cough and headache from the time I was there last night. I get that it's appealing to others, but as someone who is not a smoker, it was really difficult to breathe in the establishment. I'm very much so in the stance that, just because you can doesnt mean you should. But, I digress, what's appealing to others is not always appealing to all, that's life.
About last night, to start, I moved here like 2 weeks ago from California and I happen to be an avid karaoke goer. I enjoy it and am always willing to try new spots around Los Angeles, so my expectationwas to do the same here in Missouri. I've tried a few places thus far and found myself at Erin's Pub for karaoke with Heather last night. While I there was searching online to see if there were any spots nearby to check out. This is where I came across Waters Edge.
The resturant/bar itself was pretty large and had a cool vibe to it. I enjoyed the fact that there were so many bathrooms. I can't speak to the patrons being friendly or not because i was fighting for my like to breath due to the smoke. I will say that the only person I interacted with other than the bar staff was the KJ. He was very rude from the beginning, which was confusing to me. Considering that's the entire reason I decided to try Waters Edge in the first place.
When I arrived, I went up to the KJ booth and literally stood there while he blatantly ignored me. That should have been my first indicator for how the evening was going to go. When he finally did talk to me, I asked how long the wait would be. He told me about 20 minutes. I said, sure, and went to get a beer at the bar. That being said an hour later I still had not been able to sing. He had some people sing, including himself (go figure), but he was also playing multiple DJ'd songs between singers. DJ'ing horribly I might add, it's 2025, who the hell wanted to hear the Cha Cha Slide at the bar anymore. The song transitions were also harsh and made no sense.
As I said, I'd been waiting for about an hour or so. I went back up to the booth to see what the actual wait was going to be, and he told me 4 songs, then stopped and started counting on the screen and couldn't give me an actual number. I mentioned that had he given me a more accurate time a hour ago, I probably wouldn't have been sitting here inhaling smoke this entire time. He proceeded to say that it didn't matter what he did because he wasn't going to be able to please me. Which is so weird and unprofessional. I told him it isn't really hard to let me know a more accurate generalization of when I'd be able to sing. As 20 minutes and an hour are two very different things.
He got pretty rude and told me that he'd put me up next. I told him that wasn't the point, also that wearing sunglasses inside, in the dark was idiotic, and ended up leaving after that without singing. I had barely touched my beer, his attitude really was a turn off.
I'd maybe give it another try as long as he isn't the KJ for the evening. I had not issues with the establishment, other than the smoking. That being said,...
Read moreIf you are looking for karaoke look no further! This place is the spot!!! Stopped in on my way through traveling from Michigan on a work trip looking to do some karaoke! Right off the bat was greeted by a regular customer who welcomed me inside with a bright friendly smile! Immediately walked me over to introduce me to the owner who was just the sweetest! Over the course of the night I was greeted by many kind patrons, and even ended up with some new Facebook friends! The bartenders were absolutely fantastic! Drinks were perfect, although a little pricey, but it is Kansas City area so I can't complain too much! Ordered a quesadilla to go before I left to eat back at my hotel and omg YUM! It had JUST the right about of chicken and cheese!!! Karaoke was a BLAST and the DJ was super fun! There wasn't a single song I requested to sing that he didn't find!!! At the end of the night the cook sat outside with me while I waited for my Uber, which the driver ended up hopping over the entire curb and median and LEFT ME THERE! He was just as appalled as I was! Walked me back inside where I then ordered another Uber after promptly cancelling the previous one! The owner, bouncer, cook, and bartenders all kept me calm and assured me I was perfectly safe and the bouncer and owner then waited outside with me for my second Uber! Will definitely be returning if ever in the South KC...
Read moreThe service and beer were good. However the DJ for karaoke was not good at all… he plays so many songs in between singers and is just a not good guy… we tipped him twice thinking that would help speed along with singing then he was talking about shots. So we got him a couple of shots hoping again he would get back to singing… It went smooth for maybe two singers then like 4 or 5 songs later he remembered he had a line up. Then once some people arrived that were his friends or “regulars” he started skipping everyone else and just kept calling them up. So we left after the fourth person at their table got called up for a second time. So many people in this business… love the bar don’t like the DJ. He even told us about having three kids and struggling… not to mention he got into a war of words with the male bartender behind the bar… not sure what that was about… Would love to come back but not until things change. E-Rock is the best karaoke DJ and he’s cheap for hire… maybe think in investing in him. His equipment is much...
