UPDATE 06/15/2022: it's been a while and a close friend wanted to have coffee in Bonham to catch up, so we agreed on Common Grounds. I was hoping the quality issues from the last visit were addressed, unfortunately, they were not.

The iced latte I ordered was so watery, it was hard to believe it wasn't watered down - again. There's no way they're using whole milk or even 2%. The espresso shot was astringent and lacked any discernable qualities of a good espresso. What a bummer!! I hate throwing away food/drinks, but it was undrinkable. I was really hoping they would aim for serving great coffee,. The closest place with decent coffee is in Melissa (George's).

I also ordered a breakfast 'burrito', and for around $3 I didn't expect it to be massive. But, what I got was more like a taco, rolled up (see pic). Oh well. I'd gladly pay $3 for a large taco, than for a small mini-burrito LOL. It was good and the salsa was excellent. Not sure if the salsa was made fresh, but it tasted like homemade. So, that was a win.

ORIGINAL REVIEW: The young lady at the window was pleasant and produced our drinks quickly, BUT (from least to worst):

  1. Their 'large' is a 32oz behemoth costing $7 each - not the end of the world, just not what we expected.. oh well.

  2. The milk was likely Skim, or (I'd hate to think) they're watering down the milk.. it was VERY watery. Like, iced milk sitting on the counter for a couple hours watery..

  3. The worst part, the part we came for, was the espresso shots. They were tannic and astringent, leaving a bitter aftertaste.. bad enough we took 3 sips and couldn't drink any more :(

They have a La Marzocco espresso machine, capable of producing excellent quality espresso - don't ask me how I know ; ) - but what we received, and for the price charged, will likely keep us from returning anytime soon.

Which is sad, we were hoping to find a little gem in Bonham that we could frequent for drinks, lunch, etc.

UPDATE TO ORIGINAL REVIEW: I really appreciate the reply from the owner. As a small business owner myself, I understand the value of positive reviews (and seek to earn the highest ratings from customers that I can). I've also owned/operated several coffeehouses, including a small batch roastery, and completely understand the challenge of training, and keeping, great help. It sounds like this is an owner with integrity, based on the candid explanations and lack of excuses - which is refreshing! I have no problem giving the place another try again (although I appreciate the offer, I don't mind paying for what we order). My desire is to provide feedback that helps small businesses, in small towns like this one, get honest feedback that they can grow from. If people say, 'It's great',. but don't come back often or bring back friends.. makes you wonder. Thank you again for the explanation. We're just down the road, so we'll come back this week and check...

All I can say is that we used to really like this place for not only it's coffee, but it's atmosphere as well. This is until our recent visit. We were on our way to Dallas for the day and stopped in for a good coffee. We were chatting with the sweet lady who just moved from Colorado telling us her story as she was getting our order, then the owner walked up to her and was not only very demanding with her, but flat out rude. I'm not sure if your other customers are used to or okay with that display of disrespect. But these customers sure are not. We believe your treatment of your employees are a reflection of your business. Thus this is why you've be demoted in your review by us. This is not okay and she definitely did not deserve the embarrassment and public humiliation you put her through. Hopefully we can catch her at the new coffee shop in...

My wife and I were from out of town and ate breakfast at the new location and it was awesome. I had their strawberry cookie and their double chocolate cookie with their iced Mocha and my wife had their iced latte and egg bowl with bacon and cheese. The cookies were fresh at had a homemade quality to them! The mocha actually tasted like coffee and not just cheap syrup (which I loved) and the coconut milk added a hint of sweetness which really set it off. My wife thought the latte was delightful and the espresso was bold but not bitter and her egg bowl was delicious (I snuck a bite). The best part of the experience was the customer service! The entire staff was incredibly helpful and patient with my wife and I who need gluten free and dairy free food due to food allergies. 10 out of 10...

Always enjoy the coffee my usual order is med caramel machiato Frappuccino "I'm a little extra" shot of espresso as well as whip cream .. every time. But here lately as I take advantage of the drive through service it's been challenging to place my order and receive what I ask for I've gotten watered down iced coffee with caramel sitting at the bottom no wip cream in a small cup. I have gotten mocha iced coffee w whip cream also my last visit I was handed a cup with espresso which was an extra $2...then an iced coffee w no whip cream 🙃 AGAIN. I'm just concerned that these new employees aren't understanding what I'm ordering or maybe not putting in the correct menu item ? I will be back no doubt but this needs to be addressed as it is frustrating and can turn into a long wait.
