Many moons ago...before the pandemic and even before the financial meltdown of 2008, there was a scrappy, but well conceived Taqueria and burrito haven call El Pelon. My (now) wife lived on Peterborough St and we fell in love in the shadow of Fenway Park eating these gourmet menu items. Boston has its share of quick burrito places, but El Pelon stands above them...looking down at the Gold medalist looks down upon the silver/bronze medalists. The research that the owners have down in Latin America to bring the authentic ingredients and flavors is evident in your first bite. The chilis are a bit different; the chew is unique.... El Pelon should occupy its own category of quick service Taqueria in the city. Thank you El Pelon for your tireless work to bring quality food to the people. My wife and I will celebrate 20 years of marriage soon and your food helped us get this far! Here's to another 20 years!

This is my first google review and I don't usually bother with this but I was so disappointed that I just had to. I've eaten here once months ago and the food was good, not to mention my partner raves about this place. We ordered take out last Friday and I ordered carne asada enchiladas with flour tortillas no crema and chives/scallions (green stuff) on the top. It took forever to come (it was a Friday so we were patient) and when it did I got 2 tiny corn tortillas with meat bits inside. THAT'S IT!! Nothing more in it or on it. I've had enchiladas before and it was a joke. I was starving and patiently waiting to enjoy my dinner but ended up having none. Won't be ordering from here again or going back, I've give Chilacates my order instead they know how to do deliver a much better product.

This review is not to bash this small business, but it wasn't what I expected. My family is Mexican, and I've had good, authentic, Mexican food. This wasn't it. I ordered a steak taco, a chicken quesadilla, and a kids cheese quesadilla. Their tacos don't have the standard ingredients you'd find on a taco - raw onions and cilantro. The flavor of the steak wasn't great. The chicken quesadilla was overwhelming with the amount of chicken that was in it. The chicken also had light shades of pink, making me put it down. My child said their meal was good, but I didn't try it. You can't really mess a cheese quesadilla up. The kids' meal came with tortilla chips, which tasted stale and old. The vibe of the restaurant was cool and different, but food wise, it was not great.

Let’s be real. Boston isn’t exactly overflowing with great Mexican restaurants, and when it comes to Fenway, it feels like a desert. El Pelon used to be the most decent one in the area, but its quality has gone down in the past few years. I used to order their Platos for delivery occasionally, but I recently had a bad experience with the pork and chicken platos. Both meats were dry, and the toppings lacked the punch of flavor you'd expect. Even compared to local chains like El Jefe’s, it fell flat. The Steak Platos I tried during lunch were a slight improvement, but not enough to quench my Mexican cravings. It’s a shame that El Pelon is still considered the best takeout Mexican option near Fenway. Not sure if I’ll be going back.

This place has a very casual and fun vibe. The staff greets you with a big smile. The menu is not too large but big enough to make you want to order everything! I never heard of Mexican sandwiches but glad I tried it. It was amazing! Their tacos and plantains are blasting with flavors! So glad we found this place.
