Visiting Boston for first time, my friends and I wanted soul food, this place was recommended. The menu doesn't display soul food, only the sides were. The menu consisted of fried/baked chicken, chicken liver not much more. We were looking for oxtails, turkey wings etc, none of that. We ordered fried chicken wings, yams, black eye peas and greens. The food was pretty good, just really need to add to the menu. The atmosphere was ok, mostly a bar, a dj and live band after 7 pm..they really need to spruce up the place, not a lot of tables for a big crowd. Did have a dance floor but the majority of people were at the bar. Drinks were expensive to be in a small hole in the wall, should have drink specials along with more food options. Will not return.

This is still one of the best local bar, with great food, great drinks, great bar, at reasonable prices. The live music is fantastic. FRIDAY nights is hopping !

Slade's Bar & Gill has been a consistent and long-time establishment for great jazz, delicious southern soul food, and good music. 'Tuesday Night Showcase' orchestrated by local music producer and pianist, Frank Wilkins (see We Jazz Up...), host an evening where local singers come to stretch their cords, and spread musical jam on hunger patrons. I'm sharpening my notes and lifting my nerve!

I get nervous with establishments with one entry. But it’s worth the risk for the chicken and sides. It is hit or miss however, sometimes it’s a hit and sometimes the food is a miss. The entertainment is a B+ but overall a decent night out.
