Slades Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Boston

Paid for tickets to an event with friends. Called the establishment to inquire about wheelchair accessibility and was told yes. Upon arrival, it quickly came to a realization that they are NOT, in fact, wheelchair accessible. The kitchen staff (who were amazing) put their brains together and came up with a temp solution of a foldable plastic table. It worked...until I got stuck in the kitchen on the wall with noooo room to maneuver, where I decided that I would live there now. By the powers that be, somehow I got free. I went back out the kitchen door, down the table, and decided I was going to call my night that had just begun, done. I went to the front of the establishment to meet my friends and explain the situation. Again, the kitchen staff said, "Hey! Let's try the table in the front door...in front of an audience, it worked, and there were cheers.

I get in with my friends. The 1st DJ was great, except his transitions (needs a wee bit more work), but that 2nd DJ was... lacking, respectfully. The banter was good, music, not so much. THEN I get overcharged for my meal (menu says $23 but was charged $27), was told (by who I assume was the lady manager in the red shirt) that it was Upcharged due to the event. Ok, I understood, BUT one of my friends who got the $27 meal WITH double meat was charged the regular price. If my meal was increased due to an event, why not ALL of the meals. After everything I went through, with this establishment, I would NOT recommend for wheelchair users or those who are vigilant with prices. The waitress was great and attentive (I didn't get a chance to get her name) and even offered a way to rectify the price gouge, but the damage was done. Do with this info...

Fair warning this review is based only on takeout. I was told that the crack wings were amazing and must try. While in the neighborhood and starving I decided to give it a try. Before I hit the mass ave highway I had almost finished all of my chicken!! By time I got home I was able to taste the steak tips and Mac and cheese. OH MY. The steak tips bbq sauce has a peppery after kick to them which I find super delicious! Also has an amazing Smokey grilled flavor. For me top three steak tips I've ever had. Mac and cheese was good and cheesy too but didn't think enough was given. Now the Bad... it was so good I was nearby again a few days later and went back. I had the catfish nuggets this time and was disappointed. It tasted pretty bland seasoning wise. This time around I also looked at receipt and saw that I was paying fifty cents for each take out container and another fifty cents for the generic take out bag. I'm not cheap or anything and understand needing to recoop and profit. It I find that a bit excessive especially since the prices are on the higher side. I believe it is like $6/3 wings with sides $5-7. I think the steak tip meal with two sides was close to $20. I think the multiple fifty cent charges aren't really needed. I made a catering order through EZ-Cater 48 hours before needing the food. Slade's denied the order; unfortunately, this was communicated to me roughly 24 hours before me needing the food. I reached out to Slade's who explained to me that they have their own catering platform. The informed me if I wanted to get a catering order, I would have to email them directly.

I did exactly as I was instructed to do and emailed them. I got a call back from the catering manager who advised that she denied the order. She explained that it was denied because it was not placed 48 hours in advance (it was, albeit through a different system.) I asked the manager if she can honor the order considering I did order within the time range, albeit, on a different platform. I was told no, my food order was too complicated, and it could not be fulfilled because they already had too much catering orders.

This review is not about Slade's food, because it is decent enough and worth a try. This review is about their professionalism and the way they handled this order. Considering they marketed themselves on a specific website for catering, they should have honored the order and advised the proper way to order moving forward. I'm incredibly disappointed in this exchange. Because of the way this was poorly handled, I have no plan to order with them...
