New England Conservatory's Jordan Hall and the Boston Baroque program Jephtha - fantastic! It was a first time going. We will go back. The hall is beautiful and intimate. Really not a bad seat in the house. Lovely details throughout the hall that makes me think of it as a smaller Boston Symphony Hall. We have walked by it and heard reference to Jordan Hall over the years, but have never made the step towards going in or finding an event to go to there. Spoiler alert: we live in the suburbs and do not get into Boston as much as we'd like.
The Boston Baroque 26 musicians played on historical instruments. i.e. violoncello, harpsichord, etc. Loved them all.
For this production there was also the Boston Baroque Chorus. Wow...25 voices strong!
Plus, the featured artists - six fabulous voices- who sang Handel's oratorio, Jephtha. The combination of musical instruments and voices both individual and chorus was tremendous. The countertenor, Randall Scotting, was a treat. I have not experienced such a lovely strong high voice emanating from a male. The others were equally delightful. Strong wonderful voices.
This show was a treat. I recommend it for all senses. Beautiful to look at and listen to; fantastic setting. Even comfortable seats. We sat in the balcony - stage right, and the view of the stage from above allowed us to seeing the chorus in the back really easily. Yet, it seems all seats would be great.
For us a discovery of another place to head into Boston for a night out.
Gainsborough garage -right nextdoor- has event parking for $22 for the evening. Perfect.
The event was a birthday evening organized by my son who found the event on Groupmuse. Tix were $15. (Normally $65) and as mentioned very good seats.
Have a great evening in Boston by going to a Boston Baroque program. Wow, it was memorable. Thank you to all the creators of this heavenly music. I will definitely look...
Read moreIt can't be said often enough - Jordan Hall is frequently and accurately described as a Boston-area treasure. It's a small miracle to have both Symphony Hall and Jordan Hall only a city block apart (and Boston concertgoers have at least four magnificent places to hear classical repertoire). Jordan Hall is visually inspiring, and has beautiful sound throughout the Hall. Many concerts there are free, and a wide variety of musical organizations perform there (it's great for Jazz and other new music as well). If you've never heard a concert in Jordan Hall, consider placing it towards the top of your list of things to do...
Read moreWonderful theatre to see a show or concert in. The stage is beautiful and the acoustics are great. The curved seating area and balcony provide a great view no matter where your seat is and there are no pillars or other obstructions to worry about. We’ve seen a play, a musical, and a BEMF concert there and all of them were excellent.
Outside of the theater itself, the space is well designed for getting everyone in the door and to their seats. There are ample bathrooms that are clean. There is a convenient parking garage right next door as well as easy drop of by...
