It looks nice from the inside. Maybe their "A" squad was absent the day I went for brunch. Where to start. I had the hanger steak. I love hanger for it "hangs" next to the liver and imparts a sweet flavor. There is only on hanger per cow. I digress lets start with the appetizer. I used to live in NOLA and love rifs on beignets. Maybe they didn't change the oil in the fryer that day or the mix was off for they came out very dark and the texture was more like a hush puppy than a beignets. On the menu it stated there was to be a pork product in it. I found a tiny piece in one out of the four. The crème fraîche with maple syrup was nice then again it is creme fraiche and comes in a package not much technique in that. My wife had the lamb merguez. It was good. Aromatic the grind was fine and the sausage had a good crisp snap. Her tomato soup that come with it was great probably the best dish which is funny because tomatoes are out of season. Back to the Hanger. Hangers are called the butchers cut because only the butcher would take it home. I mention this because it is typically an inexpensive cut. Restaurants like them because it is good for their food cost. So, this cut has a nerve line down the center and you remove it then you almost have two pieces (if you cut it all the way through). I mention this for portions. The size of hanger I got was about 1/4 of the cut itself which means they are three pieces left. I opted for the pepper crust med rare. No pepper and more med well. no pink. brandy sauce hmm. not so much. I asked for a side of hollandaise which came quick and was a pale-ish color-wondered if that was blender powdered mix. That aside. The fries are mentioned throughout the menu. Love me some Pomme Frits. I was excited to have this with my meal. Well that spud is not as large an Idaho but not nearly as small as a finger-linger. For my fries I got the dregs of the fryer basket. Oh sure there were a few longer ones in there but it was a disappointment to have the little nibs of the fryer basket on my dish. Not even Mc D does that. That should never happen. Granted the Fryer position on the line is not the best but take a little pride in your position. The service... the front of the house was great. TJ was super polite and the hosts attentive. I did not have to wait for a table. The silverware was spotted and the table a little dirty. My bellini was off.. No peach was to be found. The bathroom tap water is SUPER hot be forewarned. Would I go back? probably not for there are soo many other choices in boulder. Maybe it was an off day or new staff on the line but it was not all that. The price was reasonable maybe because the food cost is soo low. If you are a good cook and are a closeted foodie...
Read moreThe restaurant has a very good wine selection. And even by the glass, it is great. The service is very good. Both of the waitress (at the front desk and at the bar) were kind and professional. The waiters bringing the dishes too.
But the food was disapointing. I was expecting a French experience, to remind me of my country. I had the steak tartare to begin with, the Poulet Bocuse as a main dish and a tarte frangipane as a dessert.
Steak tartare: its 2/3 chips unsalted, no pepper. And 1/3 tartare. Very cold. Very mild in taste. With caviar on top, and a "oeuf de caille" to make it more fancy. Tartare au couteau, so good point. Well cut. But some parts very hard.
Poulet bocuse (chicken bocuse): I was expecting a REAL Poulet Bocuse. I mean, it is one of the classic of one of the best world's chef. The sauce was acid and cold. No good Chicken piece. Only some small parts, mixed with mushrooms (cepes I think) and oinions. Bread crumbs almost absent. Dont get me wrong, the dish was good. And I finished my plate. But it is not French. Thats it.
Tarte Frangipane (almond tart): It was actually the best thing I had. Not too sweet, just warm inside, good crust, and very tasty. The vanilla ice cream was also very fine. A bit of a chewy texture which maked it great. I recommend.
To be clear: I am not a chef. And I dont like to give "harsh reviews" on google. You can loon at my profile, I usually give good reviews. But here, I feel a bit robed tonight. Because it is not what it is supposed to be. Having great classic and Niche Wine and calling you French Parisian Restaurant dont make you one.
Read moreI went to Boulder for a morning rock climbing class. After the class, we decided to hang out in Boulder before going back to Denver to catch our flight. I found Brasserie Ten Ten on Yelp. THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH! Beautiful upscale restaurant, nice decor and awesome wait staff. We ordered the mussels, two eggs any style with hangar steak, chicken and belgian waffle, sticky date cake, Bloody Mary and Black and Blue cocktail. Okay... let me break it down for you.
Bloody Mary -- it was good, you can taste the tomato, clam juice and that bite from the black pepper.
Black and Blue (Corazon Blanco tequila, Richardo's coffee liqueur & lime over ice with a coffee infused salt rim) yummm... I mean, look at the picture. This was definitely better than my Bloody Mary.
Mussel (MOULES À LA MARINIÉRE--1⁄2 lb. steamed mussels, five lily, crème fraîche, thyme & butter topped with Kennebec frites) Ask for some bread to dip in the sauce... I could have easily eaten another half a pound by myself.
Eggs any style with hangar steak... I really wanted the eggs benedict but wanted the steak as well so I thought I'd get the poached eggs and make my own steak benedict. :) Steak was a perfect medium and the hollandaise sauce... oh goodness!
CHICKEN BELGIAN WAFFLE (pan roasted chicken, Tender Belly bacon, sweet butter & peach syrup) the waffle was crispy but soft on the inside. The chicken was fried but not breaded so the skin was so wonderfully crispy. Bacon... super crispy; I could've sat there and had just bacon and I would've been satisfied.
Sticky Date Cake (with caramel-Kahlua ice cream & caramel sauce) ---this was good but comparably to everything else... it's just at the same caliber.
The prices were very reasonable for the type and quality of food and service that you get. This is by far my favorite restaurant and I've only...
