One of my favorite Boulder businesses for decades. (Yes, I grew up in Boulder!) Whenever I'm "home" this is one of my first stops. I have always encountered helpful and courteous customer service and never perceived their holding my purchases behind the counter until I'm finished shopping as "racially motivated" (I'm half Greek/ half Mexican and LOOK it!). Businesses downtown and on the Hill have fallen victim to many "grab n' run" crimes--It's the reality of living in a college town that has a "wild spirit" all around. Local merchants lose hundreds of thousands of dollars to shoplifters every year. Shamefully, I had childhood friends that shoplifted and most were from well heeled families. It was a "sport" for them and, thank goodness, I never engaged. My first retail job was a little boutique on the Hill in 1967 called "The Roes"; that job enabled me to do the "layaway thing" when I wanted something my parents wouldn't spring for! Part of the job involved keeping a watchful eye out for shoplifters, no matter WHO they were. Kudos to George and his staff at Art Source for surviving as a local, Boulder retailer!!! Read moreWent in here for a custom framing. Expected it to be expensive but the girl who helped us was straight up odd. First we went up to the counter and couldn't tell if there were people being helped there. We stood there waiting for about 5 minutes until one of the girls asked if we needed help. We said yes and she said "ok" with a snarky attitude. We went behind the counter and she was eyeing us so hard. Kept interrogating us about our painting. Then I could tell my boyfriend felt uncomfortable and I said we should explore other options. She seemed so upset that we decided to go elsewhere. She kept staring at my boyfriend and I like we had killed her first born. It was so weird!! As soon as we left we all mentioned how weird that interaction with that girl was. She seemed so upset to be helping us and we were so uncomfortable the whole time. Pretty maps, but will not be coming back. Employees are just weird and straight up rude. We would have gotten the frame if we hadn't felt so...
Read moreA classic Pearl Street gem that we all need in our lives. I have been coming to this shop for years. The staff has always struck the right balance between being very available and accommodating while also not hovering too much or being over prescriptive. That is not easy. Eventually moved from admiring all the art and maps to framing. The custom framing is second to none. They have a huge catalogue of samples you can check out and visualize with your piece. Whether you have the artists eye or you just want something nice on your wall the experienced staff can help you confidently get where you need to go. They will not rest or even leave for the day until you are satisfied. These pieces from Strange Dirt were acquired after years of anticipation and are printed on special sensitive paper but I knew I was in the right place to relieve my worries about framing. The results are wonderful and will be an important part of my home's expression for...
