Before moving to Boulder, I lived in Los Angeles and in New York City, where I profesionally reviewed hotels and restaurants. I learned about Cafe Blue from a business associate in Boulder. At first I was pleased with this place, but then found the chef totally devoted to his drinking buddies who hung out at the bar. In Los Angeles, I worked closely with a producer of my work who's a connoisseur. She believes that chefs are the kindest of all professionals, because they so much want to please their clients. She introduced me to the great chef Michel Richard in LA. At Cafe Blue, the chef often chats with those at the bar, without acknowledging his other patrons, which creates a heirarchal caste-like atmosphere. Previously a waiter had said the chef wouldn't make a poached salmon after making that dish many times for us. I was shocked when after dining here many times, I brought a business associate with me, and this chef then refused to serve us without any explan-ation. Considering the poor service and unkindness of the chef, I will never return to...
Read moreI just went to Cafe Blue for the first time yesterday with a gal pal who'd already been, and wow, what a lovely little gem of a place. I'd never noticed it before in that particular plaza, and am so glad to have discovered it! The ambience is fantastic: very warm, cozy, and inviting and some really nice blues playing in the background on this particular afternoon. We went for lunch, and, while all I had was a bowl of french onion soup, it was really delicious and perfect on a chilly day. My friend shared her order of garlic bread, which was sizeable, and that was really delicious too.
Our server was terrific and had her hands full, being the only one on the floor and at the bar, but she clearly was experienced and didn't seem at all fazed. The fact that it got busy on such an inclement day after the usual lunch hour was proof to me that this was a well-frequented eatery for good reason.
This is also a perfect spot for a romantic meal, and I will definitely be back...
Read moreNo stars. This small town place has a unwelcoming attitude that goes well with food that can taste ok if you like overcooked fried stuff. They used to offer to poach my salmon and it was fairly good for a fake farm raised low quality Atlantic salmon. I went there recently and the low quality owner would not serve me. I had previously stopped ordering his amateur unhealthy stuff like their overcooked crispy, fried Salmon, french fries and Sante Fe Salad with stringy cheap chicken. After eating delicious chicken salad at Jill's in the Saint Julien, I tasted Really excellent food. Now this Kevin guy acts like a rude small town sad amateur and says he will not serve me. If you like horrible service and unhealthy food this could be your favorite place. Proto's is near by and the owners are friendly and...
