El Maz is a great Mexican restaurant with delicious queso and chips. The queso does not have major chunks of anything in it and as a picky eater I appreciate that. Depending on the day the spice level may vary for the queso, but it has never been too spicy.
I usually get the shrimp chef’s special and it comes with exactly what the menu says: rice, shrimp, and queso. There are chunks of what I think is tomatoes, peppers, etc. for flavoring in the rice, but I pick those out of the meal. Like I said, I am a picky eater.
The service is always super quick. The turnaround between when we order the food and when it comes out is usually no more than 10 minutes. Impressively quick! The straws for our drinks are wrapped up in the silverware and the first few times we ate here we forgot and asked the server for straws before we opened the silverware. I wonder how many times they get asked that in a day.
Overall a good inexpensive meal and a fun date...
Read moreI really did not like the food. The tacos were cold. Funny thing is the tacos came wrapped in foil, but for what, usually you wrap food in foil to keep warm. If you want an authentic Mexican dining experience, I do not recommend this restaurant. The Jamaica tastes like it was made from a powder or a store bought juice. It was not made by boiling the Jamaica dried flowers. The tortillas seemed like they were microwaved, not even cooked like they are supposed to be. And how is it possible to mess up guacamole? The chile pieces were huge! At least dice the ingredients smaller. I ate my tacos even though the tortilla and meat were cold cause I was hungry but I’ll definitely not be back. And I asked a server for some green salsa but he never came back. I’m not even someone that writes reviews or complains but sheesh the experience was so terrible...
Read moreAs a solo female diner with a knee brace I was delighted to sit at the bar on a nice, comfy bar stool and enjoy complimentary chips & salsa plus the $1.50 draft special suggested by the lovely barmaid, Mariana. Choosing from the massive menu was no easy task because everything sounded so enticing. Settled on the mushroom quesadilla which was perfectly chargrilled (and SO delicious!) as was the amazing grilled zucchini (side) -- and the yummy a la carte tomatillo sauce is most definitely worth $1.25! El Mazatlan #2 is also most definitely a winner & anyone who says otherwise probably thinks Taco Bell is haute cuisine! 💯🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟💯 UPDATE: on a subsequent visit my server, Aida, was equally lovely and the food was equally good! And Maria behind the bar is also terrific! 😇 UPDATE: 500 more stars! Outstanding Chile Relleno and a side of grilled...
