We come to Boyne as we have friends that live there. They recommended Sunnyside for breakfast. We have been there three times now.
First, I'll review the food. My family and I have had: the Breakfast Burrito, an omelet, the Breakfast BTA, Traditional Breakfast, and Loaded Breakfast Skillet. All of these items were excellent except the skillet. The skillet had two large pieces of potato that were undercooked, and very little cheese (for the price it was a little disappointing). Their homemade bread is delicious and we bought a loaf even after having the Loaded Breakfast Skillet that was as described above. The only other thing that was noteworthy was the toast has very little butter. I'd normally not mention something like this but toast does not come with some meals that you'd expect and it is pricey if you order a side of it (half the coast of a loaf). Overall, the food is very good.
Second, I'll review the service. We have had three servers. Jamie, Leiel (spelling?), and Sophie (or Sophia, I'm not sure, as she never introduced herself, we looked on the receipt to find her name). Leiel and Jamie are excellent servers as we never had to ask them for anything. They both did a great job. We had to ask Sophie for everything, including coffee refills, bill, and napkins. Hopefully, she is newer and just learning the job. The last thing that I'll say about the service is regarding when we came in yesterday on Labor Day. We waited at the, Please Wait to be Seated Sign for 15 minutes before hearing from anyone. The people were obviously busy but it would seem to be good for business if someone took thirty seconds to make some kind of contact. We watched a foursome leave while we were waiting because no one made contact with them.
Overall a great place to get breakfast if you're...
Read moreStopped at this place for breakfast on a Thursday morning, three people. Two of us opted to split a three egg farmer's omelette because we didn't plan on eating a lot and usually three egg omelettes are fine for this. Asked to switch the sausage for ham and was told there'd be an up-charge for that. Sure, no problem.
The three egg omelette was supposed to have cheese, bell peppers, onions and then the ham (switched from the sausage) and the omelette literally had four diced pieces of ham, three little diced pieces of yellow bell pepper, and two or three little tiny little diced pieces of onion.
I counted because it was so silly. Comically so. I would have had a laugh (I usually shrug these things off), except the prices are on the higher end for a family restaurant ($13 for the omelette. Inflation, I get it), and the up-charge for switching to the four cubes of ham? $4. (Yes, we should have asked.)
Maybe the cook was having a bad day. Maybe the switch to ham was a bigger problem than anticipated, or asking to keep it GF with bread on a separate plate for allergy reasons caused problems. Maybe someone was miffed because we were splitting the meal. Most places don't seem to have a problem with this. I don't know. This is speculation.
Whatever the case, it left us soured over the place and we won't be visiting next time we're around.
Giving this two stars because our waitstaff and service was good (we tend to tip well and it wasn't her fault the meal was weird), and there wasn't any food cross...
Read moreAwful experience!! We arrived for breakfast with a party of 7 (6 adults, 1 child). We were told it would be a few minute wait for them to prepare a table for us. Once our table was ready we sat down. This is when a waitress came over and told us we couldn't all sit together, because our table was only for 6 people (covid restrictions were lifted weeks ago). When asked why we couldn't, no reason was given. Our party separated into 2 tables. Only seconds later another group came in and sat 5 adults at a table for 4, and were allowed to do this by the staff. We ordered our meals (both tables) at the same time, one tables meals came out in a timely manner... however the other tables meals sat under the warming lights for at least 8 minutes before being brought to the table. The portions were an absolute joke!! Omelets are no bigger than the palm of your hand. They were hardly any toppings and it was mostly just egg. Bacon was chewy and uncooked. Everyone in our group left hungry! Meanwhile other groups came in but couldn't be seated because we were taking up 2 tables, unnecessarily. I would imagine the financial loss from this "rule" would be substantial. We also were not the only angry customers eating in the restaurant. As we were waiting for our bill, another patron went to the bar (which ironically seats 8) and expressed her displeasure with her experience. The waitresses just rolled their eyes and laughed at her! Absolutely will never be back and would recommend finding somewhere else to eat in...
