We walked in, very nice looking restaurant, promptly seated, Hostess greeted us, walked us to our table, placed menus stated waitress will be here shortly. We looked around, very clean and nicely decorated. Busboy arrived placed two glasses of cold water on the table. Waitress arrived introduced herself asked if would like any cocktails, both us refused. We told her we looked up the menu online and were ready to order. My wife had fish and chips, I ordered the clams and linguini, stated, I wanted pasta aladente, waitress understood. Asked for bread as we skipped lunch and were hungry. She said there's a charge for it, no problem, we ordered bread, we received 4 rolls covered in grated cheese and crushed garlic in oil, very good.~ My wife's fish and chips arrived , which was fried cod with coleslaw and fry's. She said slaw was good home made tarter sauce was good, fry's were steak fry's, and she said they were also good. The fish was slightly under cooked, as she had a hard time picking it up. It needed a few more minutes in the fryer to crisp up. My clams and linguini arrive. I asked for grated cheese and was told by the food runner we don't have grated cheese, I said look at the rolls, what's on them? He said grated cheese he walked off. I tasted the pasta which was fettucine, not linguini, it was a perfect aladente. I received a bowl of lemon sauced fettuccini with 8 small clams around the outer portion of the bowl. there were no clams in ,or under the pasta. The sauce being creamed was like eating paste. It was way too thick and had an overbearing taste of lemon, no garlic, or olive oil, or clam juice present. Our waitress shows up with the grated cheese, I told her this is not good, she asked what is wrong? I told her this isn't clams and linguini its lemon sauced fettuccini, and its too thick, not worth the price. She apologizes. We paid the bill and as we are leaving a front house manger arrives, I tell him the issue he says, I don't like clams, but Ill let the kitchen know, Thanks for coming in, have good night! Nothing! So I said to my wife Never Again! Great waitress, very experienced...
Read moreDinner on Nov 15. We went here after reading the on-line reviews - I think many must have been written by staff and friends.
Location and Atmosphere - great location and very nice interior. Liked the layout and the separation of tables for easy and private conversations.
Food - The menu and prices are high end so we expected a lot. It took over 1.45 hours to get 6 entrees to the table and it was not our delay in ordering. Of the 3 appetizers ordered, 2 came lukewarm - the soup (a substitution as they had run out of Clam Chowder by 7 pm!) and the buffalo cauliflower (which was also so over-spiced as to be almost inedible).
For the mains, 5 were delivered (after pointing out the time delay to a manager) and the 6th came 5 minutes later! Of the 5, 4 were anywhere from tepid to cold. My crab cakes had a wonderful flavour but were served at room temperature and 3 orders of fish and chips were cold. The 6th main arrived late and it was scolding hot - got one right.
Service - We felt sorry for the server as there was obviously an issue in the kitchen. We could see over tables waiting and he really couldn't handle the situation. More annoying was that management did not step in and take control or offer any support. With all the issues we had (very slow service and errors in 5 of the 9 dishes ordered), a manager should have come with an explanation and offered support - none did.
Bills - again, the server was left to handle this and, after some discussion, the cold dishes were comp'd - but, for 3 couples, he got 2 of the bills wrong - more delay.
Finally, by the time we were able to leave, some staff were already heading out the door.
Overall observation: this was a very poor experience, poorly handled by management, at a restaurant that is positioning itself at the higher end of the spectrum. They had a serious kitchen issue and should have stopped allowing customers in if they could not handle the volume. Cannot see any way we...
Read moreI am so disappointed that we chose this place, Coastal Grill, for our 50th anniversary dinner. I was just myself and husband and we had noted the occasion on our reservation made several days in advance. Our server Kelly was a sweet girl, she was not the problem at all. It was the Lobster Mac and cheese, the flavor of the lobster was fishy, clearly not fresh, Mac resembles something you’d serve a child watery noodles not cheesy or rich. This entree made me ill and I couldn’t enjoy the meal. Of course, we sent it back and thankful the calamari appetizer was okay, so I didn’t leave starving. That hamburger was pedestrian, basic restaurant supply fare. But the sad thing was no acknowledgement of our special occasion or our less than special meal! When I mentioned it to Kelly she say no one mentioned it was our 50th anniversary. It was obvious the management was gone at this point our reservation was for 7:15 and by 8 pm the restaurant was dead, only one other table, and a couple of guys at the bar! Very sad… Kelly took lobster mac off check, as she should—but not one word of apology from kitchen or manager. It almost seemed they were used the this situation. I will not recommend or go back. Very disappointing because we live just around the corner from this place. My husband says I should mention the drinks were good and they gave us a free dessert after I told them of our special occasion. There were so many opportunities for this restaurant to have...
