El Potrillo is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in the metro area. The food is always excellent. However, tonight I had one of the most bizarre, worst service experiences I have ever had, and it left me extremely confused.

The name on my ticket is Reina, but I am not sure if this was actually our server. I was with 2 other people, and we all arrived at slightly different times. The first guest got there, got their drink order and queso, and I arrived about 5 minutes later. The third guest arrived about 5 minutes after that. So, 10 minutes has gone by and the server has not come back to take the other guests' drink order or food order. I waived someone down and asked them if they were the server for our table and she said, "Yes." When I said we'd like to order our drinks, she said (referring to the guest who arrived first), "She already has her drink." This was very confusing. Yes, the first guest had her drink... but there were now two additional guests (and they knew there were going to be 3 people in total at this table). The server seemed very aggravated that she now had two additional people to take care of.

The next incident occurred when our orders were brought to the table. One person ordered 1 quesadilla but 2 were brought out. Another person ordered 4 tacos and only 1 was brought out.

The only positive thing our server did was keep our drinks refilled, and I am appreciative of that. However, I am still extremely confused at why she seemed so bothered that we needed drinks and food when she said she was indeed the server for our table. Aside from the refills, she was very inattentive, and I had to flag her down several times. We had to ask for our checks TWO HOURS after we finished eating. I am very puzzled by the...

If I could give this place zero or negative stars, then I would. Here are the signs of incompetence that I had to deal with. First sign of incompetence, my wife ordered fajitas and they could have not have screwed that up anymore had they been trying to. They bring no tortillas, no rice and beans, no salsa, and we ordered cheese dip, which as you can probably guess they didn’t bring either. After she asked the hostess to see if she could help she was told “that is not my job” in reference to helping make sure the order was right. A good employee never uses that phrase in conversation with a customer. They finally did get the order together, minus tortillas of course. So I decide well I just want my money back. Second sign of incompetence, they do not even know the code to their own safe. When I asked for our money back, I was told it could be put back on my debit card or they could give me cash. When I asked for cash after being told putting it on the card could take several days they didn’t know the code to their own safe. Third sign of incompetence, the male employee trying to use the computer to find our order had no idea what he was doing. He was looking at the computer screen like it was in Greek. When you do not train your employees on the basics of their jobs and customer service, then these are the results you get. It may not kill their bottom line but my family will never, for any reason, be going back. Given that the Jackson area has vastly superior Mexican restaurants and restaurant choices in general I cannot understand why anyone would waste their time...

Three different sets of people go into the restaurant 1st is a black guy 2nd is a European guy 3rd is Hispanic guy. The lady that seats people asks the Hispanic guy and seats them, the other lady is on the phone once she gets off the phone, facing the black guy she turns to her left where the European guy is and asks how she can help him. Take care of him then asks the black guy how can she help him. The black guy has ordered over the phone, nachos to go. The European guy begins to apologize because he see what has happened. Black guy tell European guy, he did nothing wrong it was the woman at the counter fault. She should have served the first person who came in. Yes I am the black guy and I will never go back. Service is poor disrespectful and the nachos were soggy. And yes I'm telling all my friends, I refuse to patronize any place that...

We have been eating here for years. No more. This lady pictured is so ridiculously loud my wife and I couldn’t even talk to each other. Honestly couldn’t hear my own words. This lady is there all the time. I would imagine every person in the place can hear her. I said something to the manager and he told me she had been there since they opened. According to google that would be 11am. This was 645 when I spoke to manager. Appears they don’t know when to cut people off either. Absolutely ridiculous. This lady along with the group of people she was with should be ashamed of themselves. I would never let anyone I was with act like this in public.

This is the best Mexican restaurant in the Brandon area. The food is so astonishing here. When the food was served, the temperature was perfect, not too hot or too cold. The wait time was between 10-20 minutes. At that moment, there wasn't a lot of people there. The waiter was amiable. He had a great and positive attitude. The restaurant was well-kept up. I recommend this Mexican restaurant.

Super fast service, and the food was awesome. The salsa was really good and cold, not room temperature like a lot of places. The tables were too close to walk comfortably, and it's loud, but that's not a deal-breaker.
