Sonny's BBQ — Restaurant in Brandon

Last night, 8/28/2020, was the absolute worst experience I have EVER had getting INTO any restaurant! The wait time at Sonny's BBQ in Brandon, MS was 30-35 minutes -so ... ok, by the time you go somewhere else your name would be called here so may as well stay and wait. Right? Yeah, ok! Now, I know the hostess was only doing as instructed, but the management staff last night was atrocious: once a party put their name on the waiting list, when their name was called (Issue #1) the hostess would walk through the parking lot calling out their name! It was a clear night so why anyone, outside those who are handicapped, would go back to their car instead of standing 6 ft away from everyone is absolutely crazy! (Issue #2 & most important) there was a couple with their granddaughter sitting on the bench and the back broke off, almost throwing them into the flower bed! The hostess' comment when told was, "Oh, it's ok", and then "I'm glad it finally broke." She never asked if they were hurt or showed the slightest amount of emotion! (Issue #3) If someone requested outside seating, on one of the four properly distanced tables that were all empty, they had to wait until she "got to them" because she was "going down the list in order" and "they haven't been cleaned yet." I watched a man (the server - Jimmy) clear a table and another man come out to disinfect a totally different table. WOW! There was only one dirty and that wasn't the one he cleaned. Regardless, when I told the hostess called my party name she said we could sit inside. I said for the fourth time "No, we want outside." She said????? "The tables are not clean because we don't have anyone to do that." Guess who she had seat us at the table I told her I have personally watch be cleaned --- the same man who had actually cleaned it! BUT OUR WAITER JIMMY (who had cleared the other table out there) WAS PHENOMENAL AND SO WAS THE FOOD!!!!! Koodos on the server and food....they need...

We are confirmed Sonny's fans. We have visited Sonny's in several states and I have reviewed many of them here on Google. We did not know there was a Sonny's near Jackson in Brandon, Mississippi and we were thrilled to find it and to eat there. The ribs and everything else were hot and delicious.

We walked in at opening time on Monday 2/14 and two of us sat at a four-top table near the patio entrance. We had been seated for a few minutes when I took a picture of my wife at 11:09 according to the time stamp. We gave our complete order to the waitress at 11:15, the first time she came to the table. I took a picture of my food when she brought it (specifically for the time stamp) at 12:09. Yep, we received our food one hour plus after we were seated. I was eating AYCE ribs and the extra servings of ribs were brought in a timely manner.

There were four empty two-top tables near us when we entered. They had been filled, the people ordered, ate and three of them had left before we received our food. A table behind us and to our right had five people that ordered twenty minutes after we did. They had received their food and eaten before we received ours.

There were obviously other people in the restaurant and we heard another waitress say there were only four people to wait on tables. We understand that it is difficult for restaurants to find help these days, but our delay was an exceptional delay and other tables were not experiencing a delay of that magnitude at all.

The food was wonderful and we had pleasant conversation. The waitress was kind and we were kind in return, but I suspect our order was forgotten or overlooked...

I found myself in Brandon, Mississippi. There wasn't too many places that would deliver to my hotel room. Therefore, I ordered from Sonny's BBQ. Here we go.....

Corn nuggets

I am a fanatic. When you think of corn nuggets, think of corn mixed with corn bread. The corn nuggets had a sweet taste to it. That first bite was a small piece of crunchiness heaven in my mouth. And the cornbread batter that was used was not dry at all.

Brisket

Easy to pull apart with your fingers, which means it's cooked right. I Drizzled it with the sizzling sweet barbecue sauce that was provided.

Barbecue  Dirty Rice

Think of a mixture of Corn, andouille sausage, and rice. I didn't really care for it, but it tastes much better once I added the smokin barbecue sauce to it.

Cornbread muffin

Bits of corn in it. Thick and not dry.

Pulled pork top with smoking barbecue sauce

Pulled pork good.  Tender meat and the BBQ sauce set it off.

Chicken quarter

By itself it was okay. Much better when I added the sizzling BBQ sauce. I can taste the smoked flavor in the skin.

Dry rib rubs

I didn't like the dry rub but the ribs. It was like they just took a bunch of seasoning and mixed together in a bowl and toast it on the ribs. Very cakey. The ribs were tender and tasted much better with the sizzling sweet barbecue sauce
