This place may seem a bit unassuming at first glance, but it truly offers a culinary adventure that exceeded all my expectations. From the moment we arrived, the experience was wonderful. The exceptionally helpful waiter explained the menu options in a mouthwatering way, making it hard to choose! The highlight, of course, was the food. The fresh rolls we had for starters were flavorful and fresh, setting a great tone for the meal. The main course was equally authentic; the Bun Bo Hue was delicious. While I hoped for a spicier noodle dish, the provided chili sauce did the trick perfectly. The standout, however, was the Tofu Lemongrass Curry. Wow. This dish was a fantastic, flavorful vegetarian option. The curry was authentic, and the lemongrass flavor made it truly exceptional. Overall, Bui Vietnamese Restaurant offers an amazing dining experience that I would highly recommend.

I had an absolutely wonderful experience at here! Their traditional pho was incredible—rich, flavorful, and perfectly complemented by their homemade chili paste, which added just the right kick. I also tried the egg drop soup, which was warm, comforting, and delicious. To top off the meal, we had their chocolate cake, and wow—it was light, airy, and packed with flavor. Our server, Steven, who is also the owner, truly made the experience exceptional. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and provided great recommendations while staying attentive throughout the meal. He ensured our water glasses were always full and checked in with us just the right amount. The atmosphere is relaxed, welcoming, and perfect for a cozy dining experience. I highly recommend this gem of a restaurant to anyone looking for amazing Vietnamese cuisine. I can’t wait to go back very soon!

It’s the second time I’ve been here in the span of two days and I can’t wait for the next meal. What a lovely hidden gem in this unsuspecting plaza - definitely the best Vietnamese food in the greater New Haven area. The soups aren’t oily without sacrificing flavor, the portions generous, the menu offering traditional staples and lesser known items. The spice level is palatable for the locals, but nothing too spicy for those who like something more bold. The pickled veggies are excellent! I had the banh xeo which was so delicious I didn’t take a picture destroyed it, and the other time I got a lemongrass chicken in which I remembered to do better lol. The gentleman up front, Steven, is super kind and many of their fans from Manchester make their pilgrimage down 91 South for this restaurant. I would definitely recommend!

BOBA, Bubble tea?! Coming soon!! But you should try the food: instant favorite. This is our favorite spot in town hands down.

Chili sauce and pickles stand out here. The toppings compliment everything and add outstanding freshness. The chili sauce is so good I'm glad it's available in a jar to take home and put on everything.

Each of our takeout boxes came with a lettuce wrap filled with delightful pickled toppings and chili. This garnish is unique and we parsed out a little into every bite of everything. Addictive vegetables!!

Beef pho is very very special: beautiful cuts of steak! Fresh and rare so if you are taking out & unable to reheat the broth for the final step when you get home... may want to request they sear it for you. We did not understand how to prepare this dish from take-out once it got it home and that was our mistake. We called and they were very reassuring. It sounds very silly but we had only had tofu and steamed chicken pho before!!

The texture of their noodles and freshness of vegetables/meat is superior to some of the places in downtown New Haven we have tried in the past.

TOFU! good fried tofu can be hard to find around here! I got the FRESH ROLLS and the tofu was perfectly prepared and sliced thinly as you want in a dish like this. Even if you eat meats: if you are feeling healthy try these!! This dish seems especially veg/plant-based if you are looking for vegetarian options. As long as you like mint!! These rolls stayed together but were also very tender. Tofu for pho is also lightly fried.

Very fresh, thinly sliced white meat chicken in our fried rice was great! Chicken dumplings were awesome, lots of meat and consistent texture in both chicken dishes.

The dumplings were very fresh. We got chicken (fried) dumpling. Filling does have a light fish flavor but was absolutely delicious. One of the people who enjoyed the meal can be very picky but this dumpling (with Bui's epic chili sauce) changed their mind.

The restaurant even bagged the cold and the hot items separately, very mindful of the temperature and quality...
