So went first night 9/16, now there were several issues and complaints but I did give them a high rating because I do believe some of this kinks are only for first few nights and they will work themselves out. First off the outside of the building does still reflect heavy on the Asian restaurant that was here prior so not much changed. The interior is very well appointed but does have a very poor layout. Front door comes to a hostess stand with the rest rooms behind it. Then you have to go through the bar area to get to the dining area and this is very crowded with high tops and the bar. It was extremely congested when people choose to stand and hover by people sitting at the bar. This was a Tuesday night this situation will only get greatly worse on Fridays and Saturdays I would imagine. Dining room was very well decorated with sufficient number of tables and a fireplace. Thou there are two tables that will catch fire if they do use fireplace. There were 2 of us so we ordered two drinks and food truck fish tacos with tater tots and the steakhouse burger with fries and I asked for the coleslaw additionally. The tacos were tasty but the tots were cold and tasted as if they had been out for a bit most likely from lunch. The burger was good and the close slaw was decent but did taste like It was a diner level slaw. The fries were same as tots cool and tasted as if they were left from lunch service. One huge issue was they didn’t seem to provide the food runner with a layout of the dining room as every meal that came out of the kitchen seem to tour around the dining room before landing at the right table. The food was asking who had what orders and what not. I understand first night but honestly for a chain that has several other locations I would think they would know to map the dining room and number the tables. The other issue was there seems to only be one manager on the floor which is. It good for an opening night. Hopfully they staffed more managers for next two weeks to help to ease the flow and stress on the staff. Our server was on top of his game and was great under pressure. He was spot on and honestly all the servers were doing very well and I have a very good feeling about the team. The female bartender was doing amazing handling a full bar and also helping in the dining area. The hostess seemed to have a great personality, friendly and upbeat she kept a great flow and seemed to be on top of staging guests and seating in a timely fashion. They have a bus that was good kept the waters full and made sure to clear tables during service she was spot on and really assisted the servers. Like I said only real staffing issue was the food runner who had no dining room map, I felt so bad for him he was really lost. I will definitely give them another try in about 2 months to see if all the issues worked out but they really have a huge potential and looking forward to seeing if they can...
Read moreWe went tonight and loved it. It was Friday at 5:10, and totally packed - but we did not wait. Probably got lucky - every seat was filled, including the bar. Seems to me like some of the lower or negative reviews are based on early-opening bugs. Service was smooth, and quick. They did seem (perhaps) under-staffed overall, but the wait staff was hustling. Parking is a bear - bad location for parking (too small for a popular restaurant). Food was great. Good options, some different than traditional restaurants. Pictured is the second half of the Buttermilk Ranch Crunch Wrap (Fried chicken, tater tots, pico, cheddar jack, bbq sauce, buttermilk ranch dressing, held the avocado). Also tried the Cheeseburger Mac N' Cheese (ground beef, bbq, ranch, bacon bits, tater tot crumbles) and a bacon cheeseburger. Both great. Good portions for the money - we got three entrees and two sodas for $60 after tax. Definitely will return. PS - they do have dessert, but it's (oddly) not...
Read moreWell.....i'm name changing this to the "LITTLE DUD" We have been to the Old Saybrook location before all was pretty good. Tonight the only saving grace was our server Amy.
I ordered the Kickin Chicken which arrived burnt, not like the pic, and dried out. Being already hangry I just ate it. I informed Amy who offered a replacement but as stated was hungry. My wife had the over-cheesy no taste French Onion Soup, (salt is a good seasoning). The wings were dry and tasteless along with the fries that were undercooked with a surprisingly dark color. My best guess is that the frying oil was used up as their volume of patrons is extreme.
In closing we will give this place a pass. Im sure there are folks who are happy with the food and thats fine, enjoy! I know good food when I taste it and this missed the entire taste target area. (Oh.... 75.00...
