I know this isn’t the same business that I grew up enjoying a few decades ago. But, I knew eventually I needed to try it. I’ve been driving past it and saw the signs for Indian food and was pleasantly surprised to find out that was also referring to Poor Boys. I had also been craving Indian food. I wound up getting my classic ham, cheese and capicola sub. I had the usual dressings minus onion and added pickles. I will agree with some of the negative reviews that the pickles are super thin. I honestly thought they forgot to put them on. That was the one disappointing thing, especially since they charge extra for them. Still, the bread and quality and quantity of meat surpassed my expectations to the point I’m still giving a five star review. For the Indian food, I unfortunately somehow completely forgot to order naan. I did get the paneer makhani. I love paneer and this dish was perfect. It was very slightly spicy - well below an “American” medium. Of course, it’s entirely appropriate as this dish is expected to be on the sweeter side. I will likely eventually try some of their spicier offerings, but I would also assume they’re on the American level of heat. Some of the other Indian restaurants I’ve eaten at in other states have had options for your tolerance of spice level. I don’t know yet if that’d be needed here. The samosas were also very tasty with a very slight level of heat to them. Basically enough to realize it’s not mild, but also not enough to have any reaction to them. We also tried the gulab jamun dessert. It was simply fantastic. I didn’t look up what it was before ordering, so bit in without knowing what to expect. The flavors were absolutely perfectly paired. I could taste the rose water just enough to recognize and enjoy it, but not to the point that it overpowered the other flavors. I could eat them all day. Again, this is not the Poor Boys I grew up with, and I can definitely empathize with the reviews saying it’s not the same. But I’m not rating them on whether they are “true to the original.” I’m rating them as they are now - a deli and Indian food takeout place. I will certainly be back. I highly recommend that people...
Read morePoor Boys, a local "staple" of the area, apparently now has new owners and has re-branded itself as a deli & convenience store. Having not stopped in since the owner change, I figured I'd give it a shot.
First off, initial impressions after seeing the strange 'conversion' weren't great - all the interior tables have been removed in favor of grocery shelving and drink cooler units. This means that whenever you order your sub, aside from being takeout only now, you have to wait in the middle of aisles for your food. Said grocery aisles also offered quite a few goods from the local Aldi supermarket (house brands) being resold, which only added more to the "Are you guys alright?" atmosphere.
When I got home with my food, the quality and content seems to have suffered greatly with the changeover. My bread, which used to be fluffy and soft - was pretty dry and crusty. The filling for my sandwich, which was typically absolutely stuffed in the past, was fairly small compared to what I used to get here. Pickle slices on the sandwich were so thin that you could completely see through them, and the meat quality tasted like a typical generic sub shop style now, as opposed to the Thumann's meats they used to stock.
Shame, I used to really love this place, but in all honesty you're probably better off just hitting a...

The Chef has been cooking for over 25 years and his pride and love are definitely expressed, by serving some of the most amazing Indian Cuisine my Family has ever tasted. He cooks all of the traditional Indian Cuisine (in traditional fashion,) in his kitchen located at the back of the establishment. There is a lot of selections, but we’ve tried them all. Besides what’s on the menu, there are specials posted daily, like Tandoori Fish (which is amazing.) I highly recommended ordering the garlic naan bread with your meal. This hidden gem is so good, that I don’t want to give away my secret, but I’m also so happy to share this restaurant, so others can enjoy like my family does. We met the owner and Chef, they are very sweet and kind people that are very proud of their food. Note- We call and order in advance for eat in or take out. Everything is made fresh with love, so there could be a 15 or 20 minute wait. Lastly, prices are amazing for quality and amount of food. I promise you will love Ellie’s Indian...
