Came in with my 4 year old daughter today for the first time since moving to Brighton, it had been highly recommended to me to check it out. I apologized to the cashier because my daughter was so excited to see a piano- it was so loud in there you could barely hear her little fingers so happily pressing the keys, not bashing them just gently playing. The cashier was so kind and assured me it was totally fine. We were just in to grab a quick bag of coffee to try at home. Then, an extremely rude employee came to me to tell me my daughter was not allowed to touch the piano while we waited for our coffee to be ground. I told her the cashier said it was okay and she rudely said “well she is new”…..I leaned over to tell my daughter to stop playing and explained her to that unfortunately we won’t be returning….the employee then proceeded to head back behind the counter to whisper with the entire staff about what just occurred, even making eye contact. Unfortunately we will not be returning and I will have to share with all of the parents I know (many in the area with school aged kids) what an awful experience we had. Being a mom with small kids is hard enough. We weren’t harming anyone and I was watching her closely to not damage anything. Very very unfortunate, I really wanted to be a fan of this place. Will be telling my friend who recommended also, I am sure it will change her opinion as well. Also, my latte...

I really enjoy this place. Customer service is always spot on and the drinks, sandwiches, and other onsite made baked treats are always a delight.
Ok end of review, now coffee soap box.
Brighton Coffee House is Brighton's only coffee shop that fine tunes their espresso and roasted beans. Not only do they roast onsite, there's an art to dialing in espresso.
What the heck does this mean?
A professional espresso shot is a combination of the grind, the water, the temperature, the time and weight of the drip, and the bean. Any minute change to any of these factors can wildly swing the taste and texture of your espresso. Your niche coffee shops are some of the only places you'll find this level of craft and we should be lucky to have such an establishment in Brighton.
Starbucks, as an example, uses a bean roast that's burnt, a generic grind, and automated process. This is how they ensure a consistent flavor from stop to stop. Also why most all of their drinks mask the flavor with syrups and sugar. Try a straight espresso shot from starbucks and at least to me, it's not a pleasant experience. A straight shot from a niche coffee shop that dials in their grand will produce a shot that varies naturally from nutty and earthy to fruity to a vast array of other tastes and textures.

Read moreI go here every other week to have coffee with my son, who lives about an hour & a half away from me -- Brighton's the halfway point. The food & coffee are great. We normally meet up on Wednesdays, although we did try once in a Friday & it was far more crowded. If you want a savory breakfast pastry, you have to get there earlier than 9 am on a Friday. At 9, there are still some Wednesday savories available. (Note: I do appreciate the store not wasting food, & if I am "stuck" eating a sweet, ah, poor me. ;-) The food is fine -- worth the occasional splurge. We've been coming here in the fall & winter so far. The view from the upper room is lovely, so I am looking forward to sit-outside weather (there is a patio). There's free parking in the back. As noted, I visit to have a human conversation, so I don't have first hand experience of the wifi, but I do see people working on their computers, & I haven't...
