I am going to start this off by saying that this is hands down the best place to get a beer in Brighton. I just recently discovered this place after living in the area for several years. I am shocked and saddened that I didn't give this place a go much sooner.
Upon arrival you will obviously notice how beautiful the building itself is, and that is just the head on the beer. Once you walk in, you get to see first hand how much time and effort has gone into making this place what it is. The bar area, and pretty much every other area indoors I have been in, is absolutely gorgeous. It's very clean, and the staff is beyond friendly and knowledgeable about the beer that they are serving. Service is also incredibly prompt no matter where you choose to sit. The bathrooms are also very clean—which if you have read any of my other reviews, then you know how important this is to me.
If it's a nice day, or even a cool evening I recommend sitting out in their super spacious and also gorgeous "Biergarten". If it get's chilly enough, you'll have the pleasure of staying warm by one of the heaters or fire pits. If you're still cold, no worries because there is good chance you'll be able to snag one of the blankets they have available that get handed out once it starts to get colder.
If you're not sold yet, just wait there is more. It's the best part, and most likely the reason you ended up at a brewery to begin with—THE BEER! The beer here is incredibly delicious, and super affordable. Everything that I have run across is all the same price and automatically comes in the respective glassware that makes that specific beer best for drinking. If you're looking for some mass produced light beer, you won't find it here. Mostly everything brewed here has a very traditional take on different European brews. There are a few here and there that you may already be familiar with in relation to something you've had elsewhere or purchased from the store, but I encourage you to explore this beer menu as much as you can. They also offer a variety of snack foods, and even some heavier things like different arrangements of meats and cheeses and so on. The food—even with what little they do have is also incredibly delicious. I hope they expand their food endeavors and maybe one day have a full German/European food menu for us all to enjoy.
With all of that being said, I am unfortunately moving away from the area soon, but I can say with great certainty that I will be coming back specifically just to enjoy the atmosphere and the great beer at this gem of a family owned...
Read moreBrewery Becker is an oasis in the dessert of chain restaurant sports bars offering wall-to-wall flat screens and multiple variants of frat-boy water beer w/ a Bells or a Shorts thrown in to pick up slightly broader appeal. Does Brewery Becker serve chicken wings? No. Will they cook you a steak? No. How about fresh sushi? Still no.
Brewery Becker is evocative of a German community brew house; a place for friends to gather, relax, and enjoy a finely crafted brew after a long day of Teutonic exploits. The brewery features multiple historic beers you won't find anywhere else, such as Vargdrika (a historic recipe viking beer brewed with juniper) or the Entire Butt (a colonial America pre-porter that incorporates roasted malts that are only available from one guy in Europe). Hop heads can get in on the fun too! On tap right now is the Harvest IPA, an American style IPA that features locally grown hops that made it to the kettle in less than 45 minutes after harvest. It's this relentless focus on quality ingredients and technically difficult to produce beers that makes Brewery Becker such a note worthy stand out.
I notice a few of the reviews contain an ire regarding the lack of a full service kitchen. I reiterate that this is a working brewery, with all beer produced on site. The brewing equipment occupies significant space on all three floors of the brewery. The brewery has chosen to focus on doing one thing really well: making great beer! At last count there are over 20 full service restaurants in downtown Brighton that offer the amenities of a full kitchen. If you want a steak/pizza/calamari/oysters/BBQ/cheese cake then you should check out one of the venues offering that service before or after you visit Brewery Becker, or you can order it to-go and eat it at the Brewery while enjoying a great beer. Two nights ago I had some ordered in pizza with an Entire Butt porter, it was great!!
In short, this is a brewery offering exceptional craft beers. It's not a restaurant, it's not a sports bar, and it's not a cheesecake factory. If you are looking for an incredible brewery experience, then congratulations,...
Read moreBrewery Becker is a wonderful place for folks who like fresh, flavorful beer - not the mass produced, watered down junk in the grocery stores. The building is restored beautifully and offers multiple levels in which to relax and unwind. There are a few TVs, but they are not intrusive. The limited menu is a perfect compliment to the varied styles and tastes of the beer. My favorite, the Beef on Weck sandwich, is huge and always delicious! In addition, you can easily bring in a carry out from one of the many surrounding eateries, if you are craving something that is not offered on the menu. As for the beers, there are 14 taps that rotate a large selection of beers brewed on site. These are presented with a bit of historical perspective about the origin and style of brewing, a listing of the alcohol content (I have seen anything from about 4% all the way up to about 20%!) and are served in glasses matched to the specific type of beer. The staff is friendly and always willing to give a taste of what is new before you commit to an order. If you want to slam down tasteless beer, this is not the place for you. If you want to enjoy some unique, delicious brews in a welcoming atmosphere, I heartily recommend...
