Sourdough had a good crust but a very mild flavor overall. The ham and cheese croissant we got was overcooked. The top outside was one step away from burnt. My 2 stars is 90% from the extreme lack of customer service. There were 2 girls behind the pastry side. We both said hi when we arrived and neither looked up, said hi, acknowledged out exsistance in any way. In addition when we did decide (no asking if they could help, make suggestions etc.) the only words were "anything else" and then our total. Nothing on the change I recieved. No have a nice day. The employees told me through thier actions they want to be or do anything except thier job. Because of this experience, I haven't 100% written you off, as I'll give any place 2 chances. You never know what's going on, so maybe eventually I may try again and change my review. As I've been in food service for almost 30 years, I hope that this is taken to heart and changes are made, like a smile and a simple "hello" and "have a good day". The owner I'm almost certain wouldn't treat guests this way and would want to know so they can get thier staff to care about the customer. Customer service will make or...
Read moreLocation is plain, the eating area is bright, colorful and a bit too cold, but the food is the point and all the baked goods are consistently outstanding. SO & I had the mushroom&sausage pizza - appears to be thin-sliced portabellos some fresh & great mozzarella & some flavorful & notably not-greasy sausage.... the sauce was special, and, even hot, had unusually good fresh tomato flavor, and the crust was wonderful - thin under the pizza and fluffy & flakey at the edges w/o ever becoming a heavy 'bread bomb'. It was baked to that special point where you can tell it came from a big even-temp very-hot oven, evenly balanced between toasty & a hint of scorch. This AM we spit one of the take-home croissants - crusty dark on the outside and amazingly tender within; any thought of adding butter was dismissed due to the big flavors and delicate crumb. The loaf of challah(egg bread) we took home is going fast - its not quite as light as those I got at a Jewish bakery when I lived in Cleveland Heights decades ago, but the flavors are all there and it toast into something very special. BBO is ~25 miles from my home, but I plan to make it a...
Read moreThey recently started making croissants and I was SUPER chuffed to try them. I went on a Saturday around lunch time and the guy in front of me in line got the last one (ergh). I went back at an earlier time the next day and scored two croissants and a pain au chocolat (chocolate croissant). I've spent a fair bit of time in Paris, France, on multiple occasions and I don't say this lightly, but these croissants are every bit as good as what I got in Paris. Really, really fantastic. Best I've had in the US.
If I have a frustration with BBO, I miss being able to order online. I've either gotten there too early to get the bread I want (cooling/not ready) or arrived too late and they're out of stock of what I want. I wish they'd bring back online ordering year round (they still do it around holiday times). In all fairness, you can call in an order on the phone, but sometimes I'm doing my grocery shopping at weird hours and it'd be nice to order what I want for pickup later...
