Stopped at Brookfield square and noticed this stand in the food court. I've had an similar food before from local food trucks and was curious to try theirs. I ordered two empanadas, one shredded beef and one ground beef. I know empanadas are made differently in different countries so I wasn't exactly sure what to expect as far as the breading/exterior. They essentially used the same exterior for the arepas as they did for the empanadas so it made for a very thick crust. For the price I was impressed how large they were. A good deal if you're needing a snack or meal. It did take a bit for them to get cooked but I appreciate that they were made fresh.
The meat itself was excellent, very tasty and flavorful. However the empanadas themselves were not as enjoyable to eat for a couple reasons. One of them was only filled about halfway with meat and there was a HUGE amount of liquid/grease. The bag itself had grease stains on the outside and when I opened the container, the empanadas were swimming in liquid (had to use a bunch of napkins to sop it up). For the shredded beef, when I bit into it, liquid poured out the other end. I wish the meat would've been strained before being put together and it probably wouldn't have had this problem.
Overall, they had really good flavor and the green sauce that came with was awesome, but the extra liquid/grease took away from the experience and also took away the yummy crispy exterior that arepas are known for. I would like to enjoy the meat and sauce again but prepared...
Read moreQuality, tasty food found guilty in the Mall's Food Court. I ❤️ empanadas so when i saw this place there was no way I wasnt going! Expectations were low since it was in a mall food court...but i was wrong! Empanadas are made fresh (they literally flatten the dough fresh, fill it, & fry it up) the dough is moist thick & sweeter than im used to with other empanadas. I thought it was an "adjustment" to aid in the process of making fresh empanandas. But, I was told this is typpical Venezualen style of the empanada dough. Food was not too sweet, salty, or over fattening. Fillings were chicken, beef, or pork...and again seemingly non-processed. Like they cooked and shredded the meat off the bone. Dinner was served wit blackbean, rice, & perfectly ripened fried plaintains. I will definitly be back when in the area. My only wish is they come up with a non-typical fountain...
Read moreFind gluten free goodness at this amazing Venezuelan place in the Brookfield Square food court! Arepas are usually gluten-free and I verified with the owner that these are made with no wheat flour. The version served here is as authentic as they come. We tried four different flavors: chicken, pork, beef and black beans. All were stuffed to bursting with delicious, clearly fresh ingredients. The meats were all succulently juicy and mildly spiced. The black beans also had plantains (which the owner graciously prepared on the grill instead of in the fryer to keep them gluten free). Everything was delectable. Since the arepas are made fresh when you order, you might have to wait 5-10 minutes but it's well worth it. I suggest you sip a cup of their passion fruit juice while you wait, golden refreshment that is so much better than any of the sodas you'll...
