It's hard to believe that a place like this exists in today's crazy restaurant world. But believe me when I write that this place will likely restore your faith in small town, rustic, down-to-earth food done without pretentious pretenses or preposterous price gouging. We were sold on making a visit by our local friends who bragged up their pancakes larger than two child heads next to each other (a comparison offered by their children). We walked in the door to see a small, vibrant space. College students, families, individuals young and old all enjoying breakfast. The staff was busy but not rushing. They called patrons by their first name as they walked in the door. A quick glance at the menu made me double take and then ask the waitress for clarification. "Are these prices legit?" She assured me it was not a dream world, but 2025 reality. $3 for a pancake bigger than the plate? $6 for a full order of amazing biscuits and gravy? Just for contrast, the Original Pancake House in Sioux Falls charges $16 for their pretentious pile of crap on a plate B&G. Cook's Kitchen B&G is simple, delicious, and so filling! Makes me feel good that there are still places trying to do things the right way. Thanks for the...
Read moreWe've been to Cooks a few time. This morning we waited for an hour and 20 mins for our food, we asked a number of times but we told it is coming and it's the hash browns that are taking so long.. then we noticed 4 tables who came in after us get their food... but our food "was still coming". The other tables ordered the exact same food our table did. We talked to the manager and said we needed to get going but this point it had been 1 hr and 45 minutes since we arrived for breakfast. We finally just decided to leave so we went to pay for our coffees and the server yelled back to the kitchen to ask if they had started on our ticket!!! Not only did we not get our food, we paid for our three coffees and never got an appology or explaination as to what happened-besides it's the hash browns! Will be going to a different breakfast spot in town...
Read moreMy boyfriend ordered a small pancake and got a huge one that was doughy on the inside and lapping over the plate-way too big and undercooked. When he told the waitress, a young 20-something bleach-blond with short hair and glasses, she proceeded to, rather snottily state that, "Well I don't understand how the food could be not hot when the plate is hot," and walked away. Then I heard her repeat her conversation with us to the kitchen staff. She wasn't even quiet about it. Terribly unprofessional. Wrong item ordered, undercooked, and awfully rude waitress. Also, she brought the ticket with our food, didn't bother to ask if we wanted a coffee refill or anything else. We still would have tipped her had she not been so rude. Boss man might want to reassess some of his...
