Bulldog Ice Cream — Restaurant in Brooklyn

Went on a Sunday evening. Place was filthy, sticky, straw wrappers everywhere, dirty jar on the table outside, spoons in a tub on the counter that patron were putting their dirty hands in. Staff were only wearing one glove on the scooping hand, and that would be ok, but I didn't see anybody washing their hands before the glove was put on. One of the staff who was scooping actually dropped the cup with the ice cream inside the cooler on top of another container, face down, but he just kept filling the cup. Order was incorrect. Ordered butter pecan and got peanut butter cup. Didn't realize until after we left with our to-go order because it was the bottom scoop. Kept it because still like peanut butter, but the ice cream was bitter. Threw it out. Other person with me got banana, and it too was bitter, and some of the banana chunks were huge and very brown, almost too the point of being inedible. He threw out most of the ice cream. Prices were high, and the ice cream didn't meet expectations based on positive reviews. Counters were dirty, not just litter but ice cream and other food bits. Doors were dirty, sticky and did not look as though they had any attention in quite a few hours at best. The cashier and 2 of the ice cream scoopers were working steadily, but there was a 4th person who was just standing idly, and they could have wiped the counter tops clean, and someone could wipe the glass doors down a couple times a day. -3 stars because I've done this job, and know it gets crazy sometimes, but keeping your place clean should be standard. I love supporting local business's which is why I stopped in here, unfortunately I was overwhelmingly disappointed. I'm new to the neighborhood and this place has been on my list of places to try. I'm not going to lie, I took 10$ into the store with me thinking that, that would be more than enough to make a purchase. To my shock I saw that the majority of the specials were in the 13-15$ range.

It was very busy on Sunday after dinner so I opted to go with 2 small scoops which would stay under the 10$ I brought with me. I chose the strawberry cheesecake and banana ice cream flavors, I also asked for whipped cream and sprinkles which was an extra .50 & .75 cents. The store is teenie tiny inside so you place your order and head outside to wait. They call your order # when it's ready. After a 35-40 minute wait, my # was never called. I went inside and the young women working were very apologetic they had lost my order. I told them no big deal. I could clearly see how busy they were. They were very kind and sweet.

The reason I give this place 3 stars, is not for the service but for the product they're serving. Quite frankly the ice cream is almost inedible and quite flavorless. I actually couldn't even finish the banana and ended up giving the rest of the treat to my dog. I'm not sure what brand of ice cream this is, but it was very not great at all. Mediocre experience. I will outline the positives and negatives I noted during this experience.

Positives: Staff was young, but did a good job making the products. The cashier was very friendly. The superman ice cream was yummy!

Negatives: EXTREMELY dirty inside. Empty boxes scattered everywhere, grime was noticeable (even on the counters!). Picnic tables were dirty outside. Wait time was extremely long. For two cones it was over a 20 min wait. Prices were reasonable for the specialty shakes, but basic soft serve/ice cream was overpriced.

My suggestion to the owners is to have two different staffing lines. One for the specialty milkshakes, and one for simple orders. I shouldn't have had to wait so long for two ice cream scoops. I understand that the specialty milkshakes take a while, and the staff makes orders as they come. Having two different production lines would be MUCH more effective.

Overall, I would give the ice cream a 4/5 and the overall experience a 2/5. Not the worst, but definitely not good. Net...
